Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 8:25 pm by President Terry Micks.

Officer Reports

The minutes of the March 22, 2011 meeting were read by Secretary Joyce Krueger and approved by those in attendance.

The Treasurer�s Report was read by Treasurer Al Nelson. The beginning balance on hand as of March 22, 2011 was $1,546.38 with receipts of $160.00 and disbursements of $143.93, leaving a balance on hand as of April 26, 2011 of $1,562.45. Report was approved.

Archives

Cemetery cleaning dates will be coming up.

Thanks to Gene-A-Rama for the $300 donation to the Archives.

The February issue is mailed out. Please send queries for the May issue.

Programs

Following up our April program, �How to Read Land Records,� will be the May program on historic maps, etc. that are available in the La Crosse Public Library.

Unfinished Business

Dues are due.

Gene-A-Rama was a success -- especially the Civil War Wall which drew lots of people, even a TV crew. All the Cemetery Kits were sold, and there are plans for making more.

New Business

How can we help people who are just starting out in genealogy? How do we get them to understand the need for documentation? How can we get more members? We are making long-range plans for a spring or early summer Beginner�s Workshop, which would probably have 3 to 4 talks on key issues. We all need to think about what contributions each of us can make to help this succeed. If you wish to volunteer your talents, please contact President Terry Micks.

Program

Our program was Dan Leis, GIS Specialist, La Crosse County Zoning, Planning and Land Information Dept. speaking on "How to understand land records". He did an excellent job of showing us how to read a land description, and much more.
