Tickets can be purchased from the Pump House. The La Crosse Public Library is also having its annual book fundraiser on Nov. 11 from 4-7pm called Give a Gift. All are invited to attend.

Quarterly – Terry Micks is always looking for articles for the Quarterly.  The next issue will come out in February 2017.

Programming – Anita asked the group if Dec. 10 would work as a rescheduled day for the Norwegian American Genealogy Workshop with Blaine Hedberg.  Everyone seemed to be in agreement.  All participants are asked to fill out a questionnaire and return it so that Blaine can begin to work on some questions before the workshop.

Website – no report.

Old Business

The executive committee has the information on the credit unions under advisement and are working on a possible solution.

Ethnic Treat Night – is next month, Nov. 22. Miranda suggested a attendees fill out a questionnaire regarding research interests in helping us to get to know each other better as well as LAGS and possible future topics for programs.

Bill O’Driscoll sent a request to the State and $5 for a copy of the LAGS articles of incorporation and bylaws.  Bill’s next step is to review the minutes for any updates since 2002.

Email Issues – we are still unable to send members and friends emails about our activities. Miranda is looking into a Google+ list or something that we could use similar to a listserv.  Terry just gave Miranda a copy of the membership list and the email list tonight.

New Business

La Crosse Area Historical Societies  - Hannah Scholze announced that LAGS might want to participate in a loose group that calls itself the La Crosse Area Historical Societies that have gotten together periodically to discuss similar issues, questions, concerns, and the like.  The next meeting is at the La Crosse County Historical Society at 145 West Ave. So. at 5:30pm on Nov. 28.  Miranda plans to attend.  A light meal will be served.

Monroe, Juneau, Jackson Genealogy Workshop  Meeting – Hannah Scholze will speak next Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7pm on reading church records in a foreign language a the Monroe, Juneau, Jackson Genealogy Workshop to be held at the Monroe County Local History Room.

Spring Genealogy Workshop – It was moved and seconded that LAGS hold a spring genealogy workshop for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels biennially in the spring.  Motion carried.

Ulster Historical Foundation – A group of Irishmen from the Ulster Historical Foundation are touring in our area in spring 2017 and offered to do workshop(s) customized around a group of themes they offer.  The last time we hosted them was 2008 and Terry Micks and Carolyn Hendersin from Monroe, Juneau, Jackson Genealogy Workshop spearheaded the effort.  The events were held at the WTC campus and were offered free to attendees.  Several groups contributed money and LAGS was in charge of promotion.  Bill O’Driscoll figures that it would be $1200 minimum (conservative estimate) to host this group in 2017. The Shamrock Club and Irishfest are willing to kick in some money but do not wish to do any work.  After a discussion, it was thought that there wasn’t enough time to gather other contributions/societies to help sponsor a workshop here.  No motion was made.

Announcements

It was reported that the Mormon Church genealogy reading room director in Onalaska died suddenly.  The reading room does not have consistent hours right now as a result.   Volunteers were told that they have to be church members to volunteer there which was not always the case.  A reminder that FamilySearch films can be sent to the La Crosse Public Library Archives and be viewed there.

Meeting adjourned at 7:48 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Anita Taylor Doering, Vice President and Secretary pro tem
