1930 Federal Census

The KenGenWeb was just commended for its effort to facilitate searching of the 1930 Federal Census by Tina Vickery, Wisconsin State GenWeb Co-ordinator! Frank and I were told that the hi-res map of Kenosha on the KenGenWeb Maps page enabled the processing of "Enumeration District" and ward data to co-ordinate with Census film numbers for the city!
Go to:
Obtaining EDs for the 1930 Census in One Step (Large Cities) You will need the street number your ancestors lived (use an old City Directory at the Simmons Library (in Kenosha) to obtain this info). Choose "Wisconsin" on the "Select a State" field. Choose "Kenosha" on the "Select a City" field. Then select a street name/number. Then select a cross street (hint: If the address is the 6200 block of Sheridan Road you would pick 62nd and Sheridan Rd.) The Enumeration District number will be listed including the microfilm number where the residents in that district can be found. (61st at Sheridan Rd. is ED 30-9. The film number is roll number 2578) Then click on "Map It" and you will get map of the location as it appears today! To find your ancestors in the 1930 census, go to a library or archives and look on the microfilm roll number and ED that corresponds with your ancestor!

Hint: Do you want to go even further? Go to the KenGenWeb Land and Property Page and search the City of Kenosha property database by putting in your ancestor's address (The address must be from a City Directory after 1926) and find details about the house they lived in!

Please see 1930 Census Research - "A Whole New Ball Game"
for more research techniques using the 1930 Federal census.
