The Banking interests of Kenosha County have a worthy representative in Edwin J. Zaun of Salem, who is serving as cashier of the Bristol State Bank and the Salem State Bank. A native of Wisconsin, he was born in Washington County, August 14, 1868, and is a son of L. H. and Pauline (Beyer) Zaun, who were born in Germany and came with their respective parents to America in the early 1850's. For many years the father was engaged in farming in Washington County, this state, but is now living retired at the ripe old age of eighty-three years. The mother died on the 22d of October 1914.
Edwin J. Zaun acquired his early education in the district schools near his boyhood home and later attended the Normal School at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for two terms. He then engaged in farming on the old home place for twelve years and subsequently spent three years in Hartford, this state, after which he went to Milwaukee, where he pursued a business and commercial course at McDonald's Business College. Since then he has been identified with the banking business. Coming to Bristol, Kenosha County, in 1907, he assisted in organizing the Bristol State Bank, which opened its doors for business in July of that year with T. H. Zaun as President; A. C. Zaun, Vice President; and Edwin J. Zaun, cashier. They do a general banking business and have steadily prospered since the organization of the bank. In 1913 our subject organized the Salem State Bank, which began business on the 3d of December, that year, and its officers are F. F. Smith, President; J. S. Cull, Vice President; and Edwin J. Zaun, Cashier. Mr. Zaun is thoroughly familiar with the banking business in all its details, is conservative, yet liberal in his policy, and has confidence of those with whom he is associated in any business transaction.
In September 1892 Mr. Zaun was united in marriage to Miss Alvina C. Groth, a daughter of Ferdinand Groth of Jackson County, Wisconsin. To them have been born two children: Rosa E. and Clara P., who are assistant cashiers of the Bristol State Bank. The family are communicants of the German Lutheran church and are quite prominent socially. Mr. Zaun stands high in business circles; he has the regard and friendship of all who know him.
