John Bain is owner of one of the fine farms of Pleasant Prairie township, in the midst of which stands a fine home surrounded by a beautiful lawn. Here he is most comfortably situated, success attending his intelligently directed efforts. He was born June 10, 1857, a son of Mathias and Margaret (Bowen) Bain. He was educated in the common schools, dividing his time between the work of the schoolroom, the pleasures of the playground and the labors of the home farm during the period of his boyhood and youth. His training under his father's direction well qualified him to engage in farming when he started out in life on his own account. He has always been connected with general agricultural pursuits, and is today the owner of an excellent farm property of one hundred and twelve acres, although at one time he owned one hundred and sixty acres. He has brought his fields under a high state of cultivation, raising the crops best adapted to soil and climate, and to his place he has added all modern improvements in the way of farm machinery and good buildings. He has large barns and sheds, affording ample shelter for grain and stock, while the most attractive feature of his farm is his splendid residence built in modern style of architecture and supplied with all modern comforts and conveniences. Around the home is a well kept lawn adorned with fine trees and flowers, and an air of hospitality and good cheer pervades the place.
In 1888 Mr. Bain was married to Miss Annie Myers, a daughter of Joe Myers, and to them have been born ten children: Matt, Mamie, Margaret, Daisy, Lewis, John, Anna, Madeline, George and Clarence. Mr. Bain is identified with the Foresters at Kenosha. He is a democrat in politics. For many terms he has served as member of the school board, but the greater part of his time and attention have been concentrated upon his business affairs which have brought to him well merited success, because of his close application, his industry and his practical and progressive methods.
