WISCONSIN WINNEBAGO INDIANS TO POW WOW
TO HOLD FOURTH ANNUAL POW WOW NEAR VALLEY JUNCTION

The Wisconsin Winebago (sic) Indians are to hold their fourth annual Pow Wow August 13th to 16th inclusive at the Pow Wow Grounds one mile west of Valley Junction near Necedah.  In connection with the Pow Wow a picnic is to be held, and a complete program rendered for the entertainment of visitors each day.

Scalp Dance Aug. 13

The Indians state that this is to be the biggest Pow Wow in the history of Wisconsin. Different tribes throughout the state will be represented at the meeting, and there will be an Indian War Dance with costly Indian Dress costumes.  Athletic games are to be held, moccasin races, wrestling matches, and on August 13th and 14th there will be a special scalp dance.

The Big Chief of the Winnebagos is John Hill who is reputed to be over 97 years of age.


NOTE: The Winnebagos became the most important tribe in Juneau County.
