MUTCH
-
Robert Mutch, one of the solid farmers of the town of Plymouth, called to
see us last Saturday, and among other things informed us in regard to a peculiar
disease which has been killing off the cattle near here. The symptoms
of the disease is about as follows: The creature affected becomes stiff,
and soon acts as though it had the colic; lies down, gets up, paws and bellows
in great agony, then lies down again, refuses to get up, and dies in a short
time after the disease first makes itself manifest. Mr. Mutch thinks
that is caused by something the animal eats, as upon opening one, he found
the intestines inflamed as in a case of poison. He has lost four fine
young cattle by it, and others, during the past two months, have had enough
die to sell the number to twenty. No remedy has been found as yet to
save or help the animals after the disease takes them. Elroy Tribune,
