William McCallum's funeral notice from Rice Lake Chrontype January 4, 1901states; "The funeral of Mr. McCallum, age 92 years, who lived in the town of Oak Grove, was held Wednesday and the body was laid to rest in the Norwegian cemetery."

2.  FRANK O.2 MCCALLUM (WILLIAM1) was born May 1859 in WI., and died June 1925 in Juneau Co., WI.  He married HARRIOT (HATTIE) E. VALLEAU May 20, 1882 in Lemonweir, Juneau Co., WI, daughter of THEODORE VALLEAU and ELIZA UNKNOWN.  She was born May 1857 in WI, and died November 22, 1927.

In 1880 census, WI Juneau Co., Lemonweir Twp.,Frank is living with his parents.

 

The marriage information that I have on Frank O. McCallum is as follows; Frank O. McCallum, father William McCallum and mother Glorvina McCallum, and Frank's occupation was a carpenterm and he lived in Lemonweir of Juneau Co., WI and he was born in Lemonweir of Juneau Co.,WI. His wifes name previous to marriage was Hattie E. Valleau and her father was Theodore Valleau and the mother was Eliza Valleau, They were married May 20, 1882 in Lemonweir of Juneau Co., WI and both parties are white. They were married in a civil wedding by the Hustice of the Peace. The witnesses were L.S. Chaflin and J. M. Pelton and the person marrying them was Nathan H. Davidson of Lemonweir, Juneau Co., WI. The marriage was contracted in Summit Twp , and the marriage was contracted October 30, of 1874. Church, witnesses were Frank McCallum and Hattie McCallum and they were married by a G. W. L. Brown of Mauston, Juneau Co., WI. There is also a second marriage recorded for a James A. McCallum, son of William McCallum and mother Dorvinia. He is a laborer, and he lives in Mauston, Juneau Co., WI  and was born in Lemonweir of Juneau Co., WI His wife's name is Etta <. Scribbins (Hulbert) and her father is John Scribbins and mother Dora (no last name of mother.  They were married in Mauston, Juneau Co., WI. The date is not stated but the time is 8:30 PM  in Mauston, Juneau Co., WI . Both parties are white. They were married by the justice of the Peace and the witnesses were Fred Keyes and Dora B. Keyes. Person performing the wedding was C. Lyon and he lived in Mauston, Juneau Co., WI. The date of the certificate of marriage was July 14, 1903 and it was registered august 7, 1903, the license dated July 14, 1903. In 1910 census, WI, Barron Co., Oak Grove Twp, ED 5 page 1a; Bert McCalum age 45 married for 20 years born WI, works at general farming, wife Olive age not given, had 3 children and 3 living, John son age 18 single born WI, Robert son age 17 born WI, Julia daughter age 13 born WI, Glowina, mother age 82 widowed, born WI.

 

In 1920 census WI, Juneau Co., Plymouth Twp., City of Elroy, Second Main St., ED66 page 11; Olive McCallum age 48 born WI, widowed, son John age 28 born WI, Robert son age 27 born WI, Bell daughter in law age 27 born WI, Inez R. grandaughter age 1 2/12 born WI. they live near Olive Utter's parents and the Corsaws (Olive's married daughter.

 

Notes from Don Wurt's family group sheet; Cemetery records show Albert is buried at Nora Cem., first additon, Lot 42 grave 3. It is an unmarked grave, with no graves close, and no other McCallums buried there. The grave is just to theleft as you drive into the cemetary and make a turn. The site contains graves 1,2,3,4,5, & 6, purchased December 31, by A M McCallum.

 

Obit shows Albert died of a heart attack, while sawing wood with his sons, and lived only 40 minutes. His brother Emmett and mother lived only a short distance away.

John McCallum, head, owns property, 1500, radio, does not live on a farm, single, can read and write, born WI as were parents, repairman in shoe shop, has been in WW.  Olive, mother, age 57, can read and write, born WI, parents born WI., can speak english, no occupation.

 

The obituary of John McCallum, October 1966, is in the file under UTTER. It states in part;  The death of an Elroy man, John McCullum, age 75, was not a traffic fatality, according to Juneau Co., WI coroner Clarence Sorenson.  Investigation proved that the injuries suffered by the deceased when he was struck by a car Tuesday Eve. were not the cause of death.  The Elroy man died in the Hillsboro Hospital about an hour after being struck by a 1965 Chevrolet station wagon dtiven by Bernard Zenner of Elroy.  According to the investigation, Mr McCullum, wearing dark clothing stepped from the side walk on the east side of Academy st. in the path of the car. Zenner told authorities that he didnot see the amn until it was too late to avoid hitting him.  He sustained some skin abrasions on the head, left leg and left arm. They appeared to be of minor nature and the attending dR. was of the opinion thatthe man died of a heart attack that could have been precipitated by the shock and excitement of the mishap.

MILLARD January 18, 1890 in Mauston, Juneau Co, WI, daughter of CHESTER MILLARD and HENRY NEWKIRK.  She was born December 21, 1868 in WI, and died December 08, 1966.

The marriage information on Irving McCallum is as follows: Erving McCallum, father, William McCallum and mother Glwbina Hart. Irving was a farmer by occupation, and he lived in Marion, ( which is a twp in Juneau Co., WI and he was born in Lemonweir, Juneau Co., WI. His wife's name previous to marriage was Emmie Millard and her father was Chester Millard and mother's name before marriage was Henry (sp) Newkirk, birth place of the wife was Lemonweir twp of Juneau Co., WI. The marriage was contracted January 2, 1890 in Mauston, Juneau Co., WI, both parties were white, and they were married in the M. E. Church. The witnesses were Gertrude Keseler (sp) and Lelia Robbins (sp). The information was sent to me by Dale Wurts and is in a file folder of Dale Wurts.

 

In 1892-1894 Irvine McCallum was in South Dakota and two children were born there. (see 1900 census).

7.  BYRON CYRUS2 MCCALLUM (WILLIAM1) was born March 15, 1869 in WI, and died March 15, 1935 in Lemon, Perkins Co., SD.  He married MELLISA EMMA WILKENS November 11, 1893 in Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co.,WI.  She was born July 03, 1861 in NY, and died November 14, 1941 in Bison, Perkins CO., SD.

 

Notes for BYRON CYRUS MCCALLUM:

There is a Byron on the 1900 SD census in the State Pen, but shows him as single but the birth date and birth state are right. (From Don Wurts notes of 1997)

 

Byron and family moved to Perkins Co., SD in 1910.

 

In 1910 WI state census, Barron Co., City of Rice Lake, page 191: Byron McCallum, head, age 41 married 17 years,born WI  and both parents born US, Melisa, wife, age 44, married 17 years, had 4 children and 4 living, born NY and both parents born NY, Mable (sp), daughter age 15 single, born SD, Frank  B. , son age 12, born MN, Rolland C. , son , age 5 born WI, and Theodore O., son, age 4, born WI.

 

In Census SD, Perkins Co., Marshfield Twp; Byron, Melisa, and Rolland and Ted at home.(From notes of Don Wurts of 1997)

 

The death certificate of Byron McCallum is in the files. HE was age 65 married, born US unknown where parents were born or their names or where Byron was born. The informant of Byron's death was a Frank McCallum. Byron died in the County of Perkins, SD in the City of Lemmon and resided BisoneSD.

 

The obituary for Byron C. McCallum (I have in files) states the Byron came to Perkins county (SD)from Rice Lake, WI, in 1910. He was a carpenter by trade but confined himself to farming here. Mr. and Mrs. have lived on their homestead six miles NE of Bison for the past twenty five year. He passed away of cancer of the stomach. Funeral services in Presbyteian church burial at Bison Cem.,PerkinsCo.,(?)  SD.

 

Notes for MELLISA EMMA WILKENS:

Melissa's obituary states that she was born in NY state and moved to Winona, Minnesota at the age of 10 and grew up in Winona. She married Byron McCallum  in Eau Claire WI and made their home in WI until 1910 when they moved to their homestead 6 miles NE of Bison,SD

Notes for EMMIT MCCALLUM:

In 1893 Emmit McCallum moved with his parents to Rice Lake, Barron, WI, when he was age 21. The lived on a farm 6 miles north of town and when his mother died he moved into Rice Lake, where he lived for one year and then moved his family to Mauston, Juneau Co., WI and  lived for nine years and then returned to Rice Lake.  He had three stepchildren; Mrs. C.H. Hogen of Rice Lake, Mrs. Leonard Kezer of Rice Lake and Lawrence Langland of Sarona, WI. His parents and 7 brothers preceded him in death. (This information was taken from his obituary.)

 

In 1900 census, Emmit is listed as living with his parents in Barron Co., Oak Grove Twp. ED 10 page 4 a. Also living in the household is Emmit's brother Albert McCallum and Albert's wife and children. See Albert McCallum's "notes" for information on this census.

 

In 1905census WI state, Barron Co., Oak Grove Twp., Page 389:  Emmit McCallum, head, age 33 born WI, occupation-armer and parents born NY and OH, Zelma (sp), wife age 18 born MI, parents born Canada, Cecile P. daughter age ?/12 born WI, Glorvina, mother, age 77, widowed born OH and her parents born NY and MI. 

 

In 1920 census soundex WI, Barron Co., Rice Lake town 709 So. Main St. ED 27, page 2; Emmet McCallum is age 47 born WI and lives alone.

 

In Emmitt McCallum's obit which is in the file under "McCallum" : When he was age 21 he accompanied his parents to Rice Lake where they settled on a farm 6 miles north of that city. He made his home there until two years after the death of his mother, moving to Rice Lake where he lived a year. He then came to Mauston and made his home here for 9 years, returning to Rice Lake. He married in 1929.

10.  CLAUDE3 MCCALLUM (JAMES ARTHUR2, WILLIAM1) was born Abt. 1884 in WI, and died 1944 in WI.  He married LILLIAN G. OPITZ April 30, 1902 in Juneau Co, WI, daughter of RALPH OPITZ and IDA UNKNOWN.  She was born Abt. 1886 in Maybe Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., WI ??, and died 1925 in WI.

In 1900 census soundex, WI, Juneau Co., Lindina Twp., ED 81, page 10; Claude McCullom age 15 born October 1884 born WI, ED with Bliss D. Hitchcock--grandson.

 

The marriage information that I have on Claud McCallum is as follows; father-James McCallum and mother Agnes McCallum and Claud's occupation-farmer and he lived in either Mauston, Juneau WI or Lemonweir, Juneau Co., WI, The wife's name previous to marriage was Lillian Opitz and her father was Ralph Opitz and her mother Ida Opitz, Lillian was born in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., WI. The marriage was contracted in Mauston, Juneau Co., WI and they were both white and the type of ceremony was statutory, and the witnesses were: James McCallum and Genevieve Comer. They were married August 30, 1902.  Person performing ceremony was a Charles L. Bartels of Mauston, Juneau Co., WI.  This information was rec'd by me on 3-26-98 by Dale Wurts and is in the McCallum file under rec'd by Dale Wurts.

12.  RAYMOND LEWIS3 MCCALLUM (IRVINE(IRVING)2, WILLIAM1) was born December 27, 1890 in Mauston, Juneau Co, WI, and died May 27, 1974 in Mauston, Juneau Co, WI.  He married JESSIE B. GILMORE June 12, 1912.  She was born January 17, 1890, and died October 1983.
