In 1900 census, IN, soundex, ED 40, page 13, Fulton Co., Rochester Twp.: Catherine Fike, born January 1850, age 50, born IN, ED with Fulton Co., Infirmary, as inmate.both parents born IN cannot read or write and can speak English, The head of the Fulton co, infirmary is: Joel Brubaker, wife, Lavanda, daughter; Maud, daughter; Nellie, son Freddie.

Catherine Fike is buried in the County Poor Farm Cem. It is listed as from Aubbee Twp, born Oh, age ? adm. 6-17-1883, died September 16, 1090, insane; no friends claimed the body and it was sent to the Anatomical Society, Fluffton, IN. (Note; Fulton Co., IN census records of Aubbee twp, indicate that Catharine Fike, age 19, born IN was in the household with Leonard Fike in 1870. By 1880, she was identified at "Katie" idiot age 30, a daughter, of Leonard Fike who was widowed and retired farmer. These records reflect that Catharine Fike died around age 58 or 59. Her mother, who was also called Catharine, died October 20, 1865 and is buried in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery at Leiters Ford.   A copy of this in in the file under FIKE

3.  ANDREW2 FIKE (LEONARD1) was born September 14, 1840 in Columbus, Franklin Co., OH, and died January 09, 1925 in Necedah, Juneau Co., WI.  He married (1) AUGUSTA NAFE January 18, 1867 in Fulton Co. IN.    He married (2) MARY ANN RIPROGLE June 07, 1874 in Baraboo, Sauk Co. WI.    He married (3) JANE MCDONALD April 29, 1882 in Sauk Co. WI, daughter of ? BRADLEY.    He married (4) NANCY SUSAN BOYER August 24, 1884 in Woodland, Sauk Co., WI, daughter of SAMUEL BOYER and AMANDA SHOEMAKER.  She was born January 05, 1865 in Ironton, Lawrence Co., OH, and died May 19, 1955 in New Lisbon, Juneau Co., WI.

Andrew Fike's pension records show the following; Died January 9, 1925, Necedah, Juneau Co., Wi, He served 9 months in the Civil War during 1864, He was born November 4, 1838, Cleveland, OH.  Arpil 29, 1939- Nancy Susan Fike lived with Dave Pigeon family in New Lisbon, Juneau Co., WI. (Daughter-Lydia's family). On one page it  mentions her son William cashing her $300.,, check unbeknown to Nancy Fike.  About July 1937 Nancy Fike lived at 1327 or 327 Dewey Court in Madison, Dane Co., WI.  On August 8, 1937 the address of Nancy S. Fike was changed fro Neola, WI to 1327 Deuey Crt. Madison, Dane Co., WI.     Nancy was accepted as the widow of Andrew Fike and her birth date was accepted as January 5, 1865.   There is also a mention of Nancy's house being destroyed by fire, and a note written by William Fike giving his address as 1327 Dewy Crt, Madison, Dane Co., WI and the date of the request was June 28, 1937, and he requested Nancy's pension checks be transferred to his (William's) address. There was also a plea for more money from the pension written from William. It includes Andrew Fikes death certifiacate mentioned elsewhere on these notes and Nancy's application for Widows Pension which will be mentioned elsewhere in these notes.     On another page of the pension records it states that Andrew was married to a Jane McDonald-April 29, 1882.  It stated that Andrew and Nancy Fike lived together as husband and wife from the time of their marriage to the time of Andrew's death.     The marriage of Andrew to Mary Ann Fike was Annulled, and there was a separation of him and his first wife Augusta D. Fike.    Andrew enlisted in the Civil War, when he lived at Rochester, Fulton Co., IN,    Andrew's first marriage was to Augusta D. Nafe  and they divorced and Andrew did not show up for the divorce.    His second marriage was to a Mary Ann Fike, January 27, 1880. That marriage was annulled.   His third marriage was to a Jane McDonald, in Sauk Co., WI. She had previously been married and her husband had disappeared and he was thought drowned. Her husband was found and returned and her marriage to Andrew Fike was invalidated and Jane joined her first husband.      The declaration of Pension-dated July 20, 1922 gives Andrew Fike as age 81, born September 4, 1840 in Columbus, Oh, He is five feet 5 1/2 inches tall and brown hair, occupation-laborer, he resided in Ironton, Sauk Co., WI for 20 years and lived in New Lisbon, Juneau Co., WI about 6 years and in Necedah, Juneau Co., WI for 9 months.  He has the following diabilities:  heart, cataract, and prostate and senility. Andrew signs his name with his mark which is an X, and his wife is mentioned as Susan Fike, formery Susan Boyer.    He states on one page that his first wife, Augusta Nafe died 9 months following their marriage.    On another page dated September 29, 1913 his age is 73 and he lives at Baraboo, Sauk Co., WI and he was born Columbus, OH September 4, 1840 and was age 21 when he enlisted in the war.  He stated that the family kept records in a Bible but the Bible burned in a file in Fulton Co., IN when Andrew was age 5.    He stated that after the Civil War was over in 1865 his father went back to Ohio where they use to live and found the date of his birth and that his mother died in 1865 and his father in 1878.   To the best of Andrew's knowledge he is age 73 on September 4, 1913.

The marriage of Andrew and Mary Ann Riprogle is June 7, 1874. This comes from the Sauk Co., WI marriage records.

Also in the pension records Andrew stated October 4, 1913 the he was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 4, 1840 and when he was 6 weeks old his parents moved to what was called Indian Fields. That was 10 miles North of Rochester, IN (Fulton Co.,) and they lived there until I (Andrew) was drafted in 1864. Rochester, IN was a trading post and we lived 1/2 mile south of the Tippacanoe River and that was where our house burned down. His parents then took up their homestead and lived there till they died-mother died 1865 and father died 1878 and I do not know of a brother or sister that is living.  They always lived on the homestead until their death. His father's name was Leonard Fike and his mother's name was Catherine. Between the dates 1850 and 186 he lived with the folks.

 In May 22, 1912, Andrew is age 71 and lives in New Lisbon, Juneau Co., WI as stated in the pension records and he was born September 4, 1840 in Columbus, OH.

The pension records state that July 12, 1896 Andrew lives in Cazennovia,Richland Co., WI,

The pension records show Febraury 1891 that Andrew lives in Richland Co., WI with  a P. O. of Cazennovia

In April 20, 1892 pension records show Andrew as living in Cazennovia, Richland Co., WI.

The pension record's dated February 27, 1923 state that Andrew is age 83 and born Clems (sp) OH, 170 lbs, fair compexion, blue eyes, grey hair and no occupation.

In a deposition of Asa Fike(brother to Andrew) it states that Aza went west in 1869 and Andrew followed in 1974.

Pension papers give Andrew's address on October 1, 1896 as Cazennovia, Richland Co., WI. and also the same residence on August 24, 1896, May 1, 1896 his address is PO Cazennovia, WI.

The pension recorded dated January 15, 1898, show his childrens dates of birth as: Arthur-born October 14, 1884, Ernest-December 22, 18--, Lewis-July 23, 1887, Frank-March 14, 1889, John-April 21, 1891, Minnie and Lydia-December 4, 1892, Rosebell-June 19 (?), 1895 and Nellie-April 20, 1897,  

On January 2, 1915 Andrew states in the pension records the following dates for his children:    Ernest-December 20, 1879, Louis-July-, 1884, Frank-March 14, 1887, John Henry-April 20, 1890, Lydia and Minnie-December 4, 1891, Rose Bell-June 19, 1894, Della-April 20, 1896 (?), Lucinda-1898, Mamie (sp) dead-1900, William S.-January 19,?

The marriage record which I have in the pension records of Andrew Fike shows; Date marriage registered was September 8, 1884, Husband's name was Andrew Fike, wife's name was Nancy S. Bowyer, occupation fo husband-farmer, residence of husband-LaValle, (Sauk Co.,) birthplace of husband-State of Ohio, Place marriage was contracted-Woodland Twp., Sauk Co., WI, marriage date-August 24, 1884,Witnesses of Andrew Fike and Nancy Boyer's marriage was: Samuel and Amanda Bowyer. Name of the father and mother of the husband: Leonard Fike and Catherine Fike, name of the father and mother of the wife: Samuel Bowyer and Amanda Shumate. 

Nancy lived in Sauk Co., Woodlawn Twp., when she married Andrew Fike.

In 1920 census, WI, Juneau Co., New Lisbon page 14b; Andrew Fike, head of home, rent property, age 79, married, cannot read or write and was born OH, and his parents both born PA,  Susan, wife, age ?, married, cannot read or write, born OH, and father born? mother born ?,   As neigbors they have the William Delap family and the Lutz family.

Andrew Fikes death certificate has the following information and Susie Fike is the informanant. Andrew born September 4, 1840, in OH, name of father is unknown and his father was born in PA, maiden name of mother is unknown and his mother was born in PA. Andrew died January 9, 1925, cause of death was arteno scheronsis apoplexy.

Declaration of Widows Pension states the following: Nancy Susan Fike age 60, born January 1, 1865, his military dates and discarge were_________. Andrew died at Necedah, Juneau Co., WI, Nancy married Andrew August 24, 1884 at Woodland, Sauk Co., WI by Justice of the Peace. Andrew had been married before.  Nancy had not been married before. Andrew was previously married but she does not know the name of the former WIFE (singular). She believed that his former wife had died and that there were no children under the age of 16.

Nancy Susan Fike's obituary which appeared in the New Lisbon paper May 26, 1955 is as follows;   Last rites Monday for Mrs. Andrew Fike. Funeral services were held Monday afternon at the Wahl-Hare Funeral home for Mrs. Andre Fike, 92, who passed aawy at ther home in New Lisbon on Thursday May 19, 1955. Rev. Roger Steiner officiated and burial was in the family lot at the city cemetery. Mrs. nancy Susan (Buher) Fike was born in Ohio on January 6, 1863. She married Andrew Fike in 1878 and spent her life in the Necedah and New Lisbon area. Survivors include five sons; Arthur, Lewis, Frank, John, and William; three daughters; Mrs. Lydia Pidgeon, Mrs. Rose Nicolow, and Mrs. Lucindia parks; 37 grand children and 86 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; two sisters; Mrs. Lillian Rockwell, Mrs. Minni Rockwell and one brother Charles Buher, besides numerous nieces and nephers and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son and three daguthers.

Notes for FRANK FIKE:

Frank Fike's obirtuary that appeared in the December 8, 1955 issue of the New Lisbon,(WI) newspaper is as follows:   Last rites for Frank Fike age 68.

 Funeral services were held on Tuesday November 29th at the Wahl-Hare Funeral Home for Frank Fike, who passed away on November 26, 1955 at the home of his sister Lydia Pidgeon, New Lisbon, after a lingering illness. Rev Glen Teasdale officiated at the last rites and burial was in the New Lisbon City Cemetery. Born in Cazenovia, WI on March 14, 1887, he was a farmer by occupation. Survivors include four brothers, Arthur Fike of Janesvill, WI, Lewis Fike of Duluth, MN, and John and William Fike of New Lisbon; three sisters, Mrs. Lydia Pidgeon, New Lisbon and Mrs. Rose Nicolow, Duluth, MN and Mrs. Lucindia Parks of Baraboo.

In 1920 census, WI, Juneau Co., no town listed, ED 64 page 8: William Fike is age 18 and he is ED with Joseph Bolten and William is a hiredman.

Information in the court records for William Fike, at Juneau Co., WI:  Trial # 1: reel # 100 page 880, year-1940, and he used alias William Bell.  Trial # 2: William Fike Reel 102 feilm record # 2038, date-1949.   May 26, 1949 the murder occurred, when William murdered Herbert S. Seggelkio, with Lela Canery aiding and assisting. July 1, 1949 the trial was finished. There are articles that I copied from the Juenau Co., newspapers giving the details of the murder and the trial and the sentence. 

The Mauston Star, newspaper of Mauston, Juneau Co., WI for Decmber 26, 1940:  Circuit Court News of Interest:   State Vs. Wm. Fike, alias Wm. Bell.  Arson. Defendant quilty. sentenced to a term of 2-15 years in state prison at hard labor. This news item is in WILLIAM FIKE file.

 The Mauston Star for December 26 1940 as above, the news item was: William Fike to State Prison.   William Fike was sentenced for 2-15 years at hard labor on the charge of arson arising out of the buring of his mother's home in Necedah. The District attorney also informed the press that Fike was sentenced that morning inDane Co., WI by Judge Roy. H. Proctor, on four charges in connection with arson in Dane Co. She was the daughter of Andrew and Susie Buher Fike and was born December 4, 1892, in Cazenovia, WI. She was married to Dave Pigeon on October 12, 1908. He preceded her in death in 1947. She was united in marriage to Tony Modjeski on April 17, 1960 at New Lisbon, he passed awy on April 20, 1964. She lived in New Lisbon area for about seventy years. Survivors include; one son, David Pigeon of Chantilly, VA, one daughter, Mrs. Henry  SKinner (Lillian) of Mauston, one sister, Mrs Rose Nicolaw, Duluth, MN, 4 grandchildren and 12 great grand children. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:00 Pm at the Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon with burial in the family lot in the New Lisbon City Cemetery. 

 She is buried in the New Lisbon, Juneau Co., WI Cem. S23-R16 (space)

Lillly-Pigeon-Skinner told me on a visit with her on April 11, 1998, that her family lived down in Baraboo, on Lake St. in about 1916, for a short while. He father went down there to find work.   She also told me that when her brother Davey was little the David Pigeon family moved up to Merrill, WI, where David Pigeon's sister lived in order to find work there. That was following the time that the house burned, which was across the tracks from where the later residence was.  She also told me at that time that Peter LaSarge, was her father's cousin. She told me on the same date that her name was Lilly Mae Pigeon, but when she began school the teachers started calling her Lillian and that is where she was first called Lillian and that name was what she was called for many years.

 Lilly Pigeon-Skinner told me on November 1, 1992 that her folks lived just north of the tracks, and the house burned from sparks from the RR train. They then moved up into the Wausau, Marathon Co., WI are for about 1 year, where her Dad worked. Lilly had not been born yet. This house that burned was just north of where they later lived, south of the tracks. Lily was born across the river, and then they moved over by "Rothes" old plant, near the school and then they moved down by the river again.

David Pigeon's obit which was in the New Lisbon Times and the Juneau co., Argus Thursday August 7, 1947 is as follows:  David Pidgeon was long-time resident here.   David Pidgeon, son of Joseph and Eliza Pidgeon was born March 14, 1871 in Osego Co.,( this should be Oswego Co.) NY and died at his home in this city on Monday, July 28, 1947 at the age of 76 years, 4 months, and 14 days. He had been in ill health for the past five years and the alst two of which he was bed ridden.  At the age of seven years, Mr. Pidgeon came to New Lisbon with his parents and had resided her since.  On October 12, 1908, Lydia Fike was united in marriage to him. This union four children were born. They also adopted a daughter Dorthy.  Mr. Pidgeon was a kind and loving husband, father and friend.   Surviving him are his widow, Lydia, a son Joseph of New Lisbon; a son David and two daughters, Lilly (Mrs. Henry Skinner) of Mauston; and Dorthy (Mrs. John Howland) state of Oregon; 13 grandchildren and a brother Anthony Pidgeon of New Lisbon; other relatives and many friends. A son, Fred Edward and a brother Fred preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Lamson Funeral Home last Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Wilson Martin, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was made in the New Lisbon cemetery. Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. David Pidgeon, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Skinner, Mauston, Claire E. Pidgeon, daughters Lauretta and Carol Ann, and Mrs. Henry Boerema, Chicago; Mrs. Clarence Aldinger, Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. R. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Tuesday April 20th at the Hare Funeral home in New Lisbon with the Rev. Ralph Melford officiating. Burial was in the New Lisbon City Cemetery.

Daisy Pigeons obit which was in the October 3, 1946 issue of the New Lisbon, WI, paper is as follows:  Polio is fatal to Mrs. Joseph Pidgeon.  Mrs. Joseph Pidgeon, 30, died Thursday Evening in St. Camillea's Hospital, LaCrosse of Poliomyelites. She had been a patient there the past week and had been placed in the iron lung. Her illness covered a period of about 10 days. Mrs. Pidgeon, nee Daisy E. Murphy, was born at Wyevill, WI on September 27, 1916. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Murphy, town of Clearfield, she was united in marriage to Joseph Pidgeon on December 29, 1936. Surviving besides the husband and parents are two sisters and six brothers, other relatives and many friends. Private funeral services will be held today (Thursday October 3, 1946) at 2 PM at the Lamson Funeral home with Rev. Wilson Martin officiating. Burial will be made at the New Lisbon City Cem. Willson Martin was pastor of First Baptist Church in New Lisbon, WI.

9.  MINNIE MALINDA3 FIKE (ANDREW2, LEONARD1) was born December 04, 1892 in Cazenovia, Richland Co., WI, and died September 1945.  She married (1) WILLIAM WALLACE REYNOLDS December 16, 1908 in Tomah, Monroe Co., WI.  He was born January 02, 1852 in Pitzville, OH, and died December 24, 1925 in WI.  She married (2) PERRY VALENTINE December 16, 1908 in Tomah, Monroe Co., WI.

Minnie's registration of birth is as follows: Volume F of births page 445, number 255, Richland Co., WI: Minnie Malinda Fike, white, female, other living issue ?, name of father-Andy Fike, occupation of father-farmer and laborer, full name of mother before marriage-Susie Bougher, date of birth, December 4, 1892 (Sunday), place of birth-Cazenovia, Richland Co., WI, father born OH, mother born OH, she was one of twins.   Birth recorded December 6, 1892

 Minnie's obituary states that she was age 52 when  she died and lived at 830 Wall St. Sparta, WI ? when she died. She died at the Sparta Hospital. and the funeral was by the Nelson Funeral Home and burial at Woodlawn Cem. I assume all of this was in Sparta, Monroe Co., WI.

In the pre 1907 WI births it shows Minnie M. Fike born December 4, 1892, in Richland Co., WI, reel 0253, record 000729.

Notes for WILLIAM WALLACE REYNOLDS:

The obituary of William Reynolds reads as follows: William Wallace Reynolds, passed away Thursday, December 24, 1925. He was born in Pitzville, OH on January 2, 1853. When he was 4 years old he moved to Indiana and two years later came to Juneau Co., WI with his parents. There he grew to manhood. At the age of 24, he married Miss Susie L. Ring of Pittsville, WI.  To them was born two children, Luella May, preceded him in death 24 years. Lurena Maud survives him, His wife preceded him in death on June 22, 1884. On December 16, 108 he was united in marriage to Miss. Minnie M. Fike of Tomah. To them were born 6 children, two of them dying in infancy.  He is survived by his wife, 4 children, 3 grandchildren, 3 gr gr grandchildren and two brothers. R. M. Reynolds of Oakdale, WI and Isaac A. Reynolds of Sparta, WI. Funeral services were held from his alte home and the pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial at Woodlawn Cem. (Sparta?)

The obituary of Ernest A. Reynolds of October 2000 is:

 Sparta, WI---Ernest A. Reynolds, 90, of the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta, died early Tuesday morning, Ocotber 24, 2000, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Facility, Sparta.

He was born in Sparta, WI, on January 28, 1910, the son of William and Minnie (Fike) Reynolds. He attended Sparta public schools and graduated in 1929. On July 28, 1934, he was united in marriage to Myrtle E. Slater after dating each other since 1930, which was just after the crash and start of the Depression. They couldn't afford to get married and set up housekeeping until 1934.

He worked ar the Monroe County Telephone Co. for 43 years, starting on the pole lines and advancing to district manager. He was the manager of Suburban Television. During World War 2, he served in the Navy Seabees in the Pacific.

He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, seving the board for a number of years. also a director of the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a president and director of the Sparta Industrial Foundation, four-year term alterman for the 7th Ward, served on the water commision, and was president of the Sparta Free Library Board.  He also was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a member of General R. B. McCoy Post 2112 in Sparta and served as a commander quartermaster and member of the firing squad.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Violet Patridge and Alma Pomeroy adn one brother Everette Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife Myrtle, one sister Grace Rockwell of La Crosse adn many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 28, athe the United Methodist Church, Sparta with the Rev. David Carlson Officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 of Sparta, will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m.

Memorials may be given to the Morrows Memorial Home, Sparta.

The Page-Smith Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

The obituary of Mrytle Slater-Reynolds, which was in the LaCrosse Tribune, LaCrosse, WI, Wednesday February 7, 2001 is as follows:

 Myrtle E. Reynolds, 91, of Sparta, died late Saturday evening Feb. 3, 2001 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta.

 She was born in Coon Valley, WI, on October 13, 1909, the daughter of William and Anna (Marshall) Slater. Her family moved to Sparta and she attended Sparta schools and graduated from Sparta High School. She was united in marriage to Ernest A. Reynolds on July 28, 1934, in Sparta. They lived in Sparta for all of their married lives except when Ernie was in the military. Myrtle worked at the Tobacco Warehouse and then the Monroe County Home and at the Wisconsin Child Center. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sparta and the VFW Post 2112 Auxiliary in Sparta.

 She is preceded in death by her husband on December 24, 2000 and four sisters:  Ruth, Fritz, Eunice Redpath, Daisy Spalla and Gladys. She is survived by nieces and nephews.

 A memorial service will be held Saturday Feb. 10, at the United Methodist Church, Sparta, with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a. m. Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta, or to the charity of your choice. The Page-Smith Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements.
