Organized:  1857 
First Settlers: Andrew Scott and Thomas Buckley, 1847
Origin of Name: The wooded portions of this town were quickly logged off in the early 1850's, offering settlers a "clear field" for their plows.
First Town Chairman:  Andrew Scott
First School: at Dunn's Mill
First Recorded Town Tax:   $261.87 in 1865
