The people assembled at the Court House on Saturday afternoon last and after electing W. F. Winsor Chairman and J. T. Hanson Secretary they decided by a unanimous vote to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the county, and organized for this purpose the "Semi-Centennial Association of Juneau County" and what officers necessary were chosen and then by a unanimous vote decided that Mauston should be the proper place for the celebration.

They then elected: G. H. Ely of Mauston, President; J. W. Dalton, of Lindina, Vice President; J. T. Hanson, of Mauston, Secretary; M. L. Bunnell, of Lemonweir, Treasurer; and that the four elective officers select a committeeman from each precinct in the county, and that the President select all other committees.

May 31 and June 1 were selected as the dates, and an adjournment was taken to a time to be set by this president and secretary.

The president has selected a few of his committees and will announce the others later: Press COmmittees - J. T. Hanson, John Turner, Willard Temple of Mauston; W. C. B. Showers, T. K. Dunn, of Elroy; E. N. Hurd, C. A. Leicht, of New Lisbon; O. D. Whitehall of Wonewoc; C. M. Hutchinson, of Necedah.

Executive Committee - The four elective officers and W. F. Winsor, A. D. Gill and J. H. McNown.

Finance Committee - A. W. Hosig, I. H. Stewart and O. G. Loomis.

Committee on grounds - D. W. Allaby, J. H. Randall and John Rose.

We will print matters of interest to the people pertaining to the celebration each week.

On March 8, 1855 an act was passed by the legislature to submit the question of the division of Adams County to the people.  On Nov. 6, 1855 the people decided by their votes, to divide the county.  On Oct. 13, 1856 an act was passed to organize the county of Juneau and to locate the county seat thereof.  The first section reads as follow: "From and after the first day of Jan. A.D. 1857 all that portion of territory lying and being west of the main channel of the Wisconsin river, and now and formally embraced in this County of Adams, shall form and constitute a new and separate county, to be known and designated as the County of Juneau."

On Feb. 2, 1857 the first election was held and there was 1100 votes polled.  There were 11 towns.

M. F. Lyons - Clerk of Circuit Court
Fernando Winsor - Dist. Attorney
G. R. Nichols - Sheriff
C. F. Culter - Clerk of the Board
Horace Croswell - Register of Deeds
George McCafferty - Treasurer
E. D. Rogers - Surveyor
R. R. Coombs - Coroner

The Board of Supervisors held their first meeting on March 2, and the representation follows:
Plymouth - M. M. Baker
Fountain - J. P. Moulter
Lisbon - E. G. Little
Lindina - J. COtter
Lemonweir - E. G. Shute
Seven Mile Creek - Wm. Taylor
Lyndon - James Havey
Waucedah - Jacob Towle
Summit - John Chadwick
Germantown - B. B. Hale
Necedah - Thomas Weston

The above covered all the present territory.  Plymouth included WOnewoc; Fountain included Orange; Lyndon included Marino; Necedah included Cutler, Kingston, Finley and Armenia.  We have more definite details concerting these towns which we will give later.
