"After searching for 8 years I have found some of my great grandmother's family. The biography for J. Martin Burgess in the Biographical Records tells the story. My great grandmother was the Mrs. Bates of Kingman County, KS.
I knew she was born in Bond County, Il. and had heard she was raised by a Burgess family but this explains her mother married Henry Burgess. I am still searching for her father's name and think he must have come to Wi. with his family as did Henry Burgess and he either died there or on the way. Thanks for the great sight."

"Thank you for the look up. The information is most helpful. Coincidentally, while looking up the Census for 1900 at the Family History Center I noticed that someone else had ordered and was done with "Vital Statistics/Grant County, Wisconsin" so I borrowed it for a look see. Unfortunately it was 1900-1903 and I now believe that my great grandparents Henry Holzer and Anna Klar were married 1904. I will now order that film myself to confirm the dates.
"Again, thank you. I only started on Holzer/Klar 3 months ago and by writing (thank you for the Internet) all of the Klars still in Platteville, I made phone contact with David Klar last week. He is farming the original Klar farm and purchased the farm next door--the original Holzer farm. So, essentially, I made contact with a "cousin" and he confirmed that all of the Klars' still in Platteville are relatives. Genealogy is so much fun.

County Genealogical Society, received the surname listings for the cemeteries
and hit the genealogical "motherlode." So exciting to now know where my

"I've begun searching for some emigrants from the area my ancestors came
from for a man in Germany who would like to find out where these people
went. I've submitted the names to Grant county and through the link on your
page, wrote to Grant Co Gen. Soc and asked for cemetary lookups. I found 2
of the families for sure and some evidence of a 3rd in Grant County! I
checked Grant in the first place because I found one name in the 1860
census index - also others from not too far away had settled in Grant Co."
