We have been trying to find out where Barbara KOPPEN was buried, along with Ferdinand's parents John and Cecila KOPPEN. I assume it is in or around Cassville. When we were in the Potosi/Tennyson and Cassville area the first part of September, we were unable to locate and of the cemetaries in the Cassville area. We were able to locate the St Andrews (new and old cemetary), In fact we think that we found the grave site of Joseph SCHOLL's father and mother (Peter SCHOLL and Willimina ROEMER. I'm interested in any information someone may have on any early FOust/FAust (John Taylor-John Almarion) or WAYNE (Margurette Louisa) or FOSTER (Polly-George) families. I know that they settled in Crawford Co.around 1850's and a few married there. My GGGrandfather and family is buried in the Boydtown Cemetery, Crawford Co. At sometime they moved to Grant County. My Mother (Ellen Faust) was born in Boscobel 8/30/1915. I may want to buy the reprint of C.W. Butterfield's History of Grant Co., but if there is no history of the FOust/FAust or Wayne or Foster families there, it might not be worth it. Cornelius GARVEY, said to have been born 16 Feb 1804 in New York, and
his wife Saphronia LYONS (1810-1896) were living in Grant County, WI by
6 Aug 1853 when their son Cornelius Albert Garvey was born. They moved
to Lincoln, Nebraska probably in the 1870s, to Red Oak, Montgomery Co.
Iowa by 1880 and to Pierce Co., Nebraska by 1885, where they died.
A Cornelius and Sophronia GARVEY are listed in the 1850 census of Laona Township in Winnebago Co., ILL in 1850. Their children in that year
included two who are known to have moved to Wisconsin: Clarissa, b.
abt. 1849 and married Thomas SPICER in Wisconsin on 24 Jan 1867, and
Irvin, who was born in 1847, married Jane VON WILAMOVITZ, died in 1914
and is buried in Mifflin, WI leaving children Clarissa, Julia and Ruth.
We feel certain that the Cornelius and Sophronia of Illinois are the
same as the Cornelius and Saphronia of Grant Co., WI.
Cornelius of Ill. also had children Jonathan, b. abt. 1834, George, b.
abt 1837 and Mary A., b. abt. 1843. Seeking any data on the Garveys of
Grant County; have info to share on the descendants of Cornelius's son

Hi, I'm looking for information on Willie (Willis or William) BARTHOLOMEW
and his wife, Maria Jane (KEITH) BARTHOLOMEW, as well as their son, Andrew
J. BARTHOLOMEW.
My gg grandmother Mariah Jane (KEITH) BARTHOLOMEW is buried in Old Rock
Church Cemetery at Livingston, Grant Co. Wi. She probably died in the late
1800s. I'm basing that assumption on the fact that she was married in 1850
and her son, my great grandfather Andrew J. BARTHOLOMEW was born about 1854
(possibly in Martinsville or Martintown. I do not find either on a current
map). I'm assuming that my gg grandfather Willie (William or Willis)
BARTHOLOMEW may also be buried in Livingston.
Is there anyone in that area where I can get a lookup done for their death
information and/or, hopefully, obituaries and maybe look for my great
grandfather's birth information? If lookups are available, feel free to
forward my message to them with a request that they let me know the cost of
this work as I am on a limited research budget.
I would also like to find out if there were other children in the family
besides Andrew.
Another researcher told me of a "Record of the Bartholomew Family"
published in 1885 that exists in a library somewhere in Wisconsin. Would
love to locate the book as well. Thanks for any help.

Ruell EWER died in 1863 I think in the Civil War shortly after enlisting, but I also have information that he died in Cassville in 1863. I am seeking to find the ancestry of my great-grandfather, William Shannon COOK. He was in Grant Co. by 1840 when he bought land from John P. COOK. Wm. married Anna BATES at Hazel Green in Grant Co. in 1847. They lived in Lafayette Co., near Benton, then at Clifton--Livingston area in Grant Co. until 1875. Other COOK families also lived in that area at the same time. Were they related? William S. COOK was born in Ohio abt. 1812/14, his father is said to have been born in New Jersey. William S. COOK died near Simpson, Mitchell Co. Kansas in 1890. Anna BATES died near there in 1900. Seeking any COOK--BATES family information of ones who lived in that area of Grant Co. WI. 1840 to 1870.

I am seeking information about John BENNOR who obtained land through the
General Land Office in Grant County in the year 1854. I believe there
might be a connection between John BENNOR and Griffen BENNOR. Griffen
BENNOR, who is in my wife's family line, married Emily MERRITT of Grant
County. Emily was born in Grant County on 11 Nov 1848. Griffen BENNOR
was born on 25 Oct 1838, probably in Jo Daviess County, IL. I have no
other information about John BENNOR, but thought that perhaps the two
Bennors might be related. I have been unable to trace the parents of
Griffen BENNOR, so I thought that, if John BENNOR was related it would
provide some help. The BENNOR family name is not a common one.
Any help, or information about either John or Griffen BENNOR would be
much appreciated.

Looking for info on the death and burial of Heinrich Ferdinand NOBIS and Ida (Edith) Pauline NOBIS (KRAUSSE) in or near Lancaster.
Concerning the death of Heinrich, The Fennimore Times, 10 July 1907, in an article concerning the visit to Lancaster by Richard NOBIS, indicated that Richard had not visited Lancaster since they moved to Illinois (Hanover, Jo Daviess co.) 33 years earlier, after the death of his father. This places the year of death at about 1873-1874.
The newspaper article also, indicated that Richard NOBIS's mother [Ida (Edith) NOBIS] died two years before his visit, and the body was buried in Lancaster, Grant County, Wisconsin. This places the year of death of Ida at about 1905. It is believed that she may have died in Hanover, Jo Daviess c., IL, but the body was brought to Lancaster for burial. I am researching an early settler to the Platteville area named John CLAYTON. He immigrated from England and took up farming in what was to become Big Patch some time between 1838 and 1840. His wife was Thomeson (Hannah) CHAPMAN. They were married with two daughters, Mary and Jane, when they arrived in Big Patch. They had seven more children, including my great-great grandmother Sarah M. CLAYTON (who married John KOPP, son of Carroll KOPP also of Big Patch who came from Prussia in the early 1840s). I am interested in learning more about the CLAYTONs and locating descendents.
I am researching a family of early Platteville settlers named CHAPMAN. My 3-great grandmother Thomeson (Hannah) CHAPMAN married John CLAYTON and immigrated from England in the 1830s. They settled in what was to become Big Patch just south of Platteville sometime between 1838 and 1840. There were three prominent CHAPMANs living in the Platteville during this period: John, Robert and Thomas. They all arrived in the 1830s. (Robert arrived July, 1834). I suspect Thomeson was related. Was John CHAPMAN the father of Robert, Thomas and Thomeson?
I am researching a family of early Grant Co. settlers named KOPP. Carroll (Carl) KOPP immigrated from Duttweiler, Prussia in the early 1840s and settled in what was to become Big Patch just south of Platteville. They had three children when they arrived. They had seven more in Big Patch, including my great-great grandfather John KOPP. They farmed, as did their neighbors the CLAYTONs and the CHAPMANs. The three families made up nearly half the Big Patch population of 60. They intermarried. I descend from all three families. I'd like to learn more about Big Patch and the KOPP family. I'd liked to locate interested descendents.

KELLY- Update from previous post. I found another clue on William S. KELLY. I looked on the wrong reel of film for the 1920 Census. I did find him in Clarke County, WA in 1920 with his family. It lists his place of birth as Wisconsin. In earlier post he lists Lancaster, WI as his place of birth on his son's birth cert. In the 1920 census it looks like he said that his father was born in Greece and then the words not known is written over it. On his mother it says not known and Greece is squeezed in above it. Now, I am really determined to try to find him. Of, course I have new questions. Is Greece a mistake (since the family listed before him is from Greece), was just his mom from Greece? Did he change his name? If anyone can help me out on this it would be greatly appriecated. The census also said he was 43 yrs old, which still puts his birth at about 1867. I have information on the LISCOM line back to William LISCOM Sr. (@1630-1686) of Mass. I am interested in furthering the JONES line. have my Grt-Grt-Grt Grandfather, James JONES, b. 1797 PA, in the 1850 census with his wife, Polly. I believe that Polly could possibly be his second wife. He had a daughter Clarinda b. 1836, WI, son George Washington JONES, b. 11 Jul 1842, in Platteville, Grant, WI, d. 23 Dec 1917, Hulett, Crook, WY, (my Grt-Grt Grandfather.) a daughter, Elnora, b. 1846, Grant, WI, and a son, Thomas J. b. 1848, Grant Co., WI. a son James K. b. 1849, Grant, WI. James was helping out with relief for the widows during or after the C.W. Supposedly James was a Cpt and served in three wars. I don't think he served in the CW. George Washington JONES was in the CW but never mustered out. He marred Eliza B. LISCOM on 14 Feb 1862 in Platteville, Grant, WI. They eventually moved to Whittemore, Palo Alto Co., Iowa where Eliza died shortly after childbirth from the measles that broke in instead of out. They stuck her in a snowbank until spring and then buried her. After that George abandoned all of the nine remaining children. The infant (Onona Pearl JONES) that Eliza gave birth to also died. Later on, I have found that George possibly married two more tmes after that. I have since been trying to locate Eliza's and George's Children. Eliza was very musical. She even played in a band that played before one of the Presidents of the United States. She set up the first children's frontier band. Her father, Heman/Herman Lowery LISCOM (b. 7 Jul 1810 in Underhill, VT d. 31 Jan 1883, Mt. Ida Baptist Church Cemetery, Grant Co. WI.) was educated in Germany. He was a schoolteacher and later married Sarah Ann JACOBS, b. 1816, VT, d. Grant Co., WI abt 1874(?). They were md. 27 April 1845 in Grant Co., WI. Sarah Ann JACOBS was his second wife. His first wife was Eliza Wait Flagg BLISS.

Looking for any info on a William S. KELLY. All we know is what
follows: My father in laws birth cert; The birth cert is from OR and is
dated Jan 1918 and listed William S KELLY age 41 from Lancaster, WI
occupation Logger. We believe him to be a drifter since he married
Louise PETERSON in 1916 in WA. On the marriage license he lists that he
is from WA. He left several times and finally left for good in the
early 1930's. We believe he may of ended up in CA. There was such
bitterness in the family no one talked about it and now every one is
gone. I have checked the 1920 census for WA, OR, And CA. The 1910
census for WA, and OR. Birth index for WI.
We also believe the S. might stand for Sherman.
Any help or suggestions at this point will help.
Given he lists his age in 1918 as 41 we feel he was born about 1867.

Hello, I am writing to request a query on the YOUNG family of Boscobel. I would like to know anything about them. My grandparents are still living in Boscobel as YOUNGs, but I would like to know about the history of the YOUNGs in greater detail-most especially the country of immigration and if any YOUNGs served in the Wars (I know Grandpa is a vet, though!). Thank you for any information you can give, I would appreciate your help.

I am researching my great grandmother's family who I have reason to believe
lived in Lancaster, Grant Co., WI. Her name was Clara Elizabeth RHODES.
She had two siblings, Linda RHODES and Howard RHODES. My grandmother
married Frank Warren BUCHNER. I am looking for the dates of birth of the
three RHODES as well as the birthdate of BUCHNER. I am guessing that Clara
RHODES was born in the late 1860's to the early 1870's. I base this on the
fact that my grandmother was born in 1894 in Milwaukee, I have to assume
that Clara and Frank BUCHNER moved there from Lancaster. I have old studio
portraits taken in Lancaster by the W.B. Van De Wall studio, by the Watton
studio and by the Longdon studio. There are no dates on these photos. One
has the name F.W. BUCHNER noted on the back. I also have a photo taken in
Platteville by J.S. Nye with the name Clara RHODES noted on the back. The
photo taken by the Longdon studio is of an older woman, who I am guessing
is either the mother of Frank BUCHNER or Clara RHODES. I am also guessing
that the photos were taken in the 1880's. I believe that both Howard and
Linda RHODES continued to live in Lancaster. I recall going to see Linda
at her deathbed in the late 1940's or early 1950's when I was a young
child. My mother recalls going to see them when she was a young girl in
the 1930's. I would be most grateful if you could provide me with any
information on these families or suggestions as to where to look further. I
currently live in The Bahamas and my mother lives in Hawaii so it has been
rather difficult to dig information up. We are planning to meet in WI in
early October of this year to visit places my ancestors lived. So any
information you might be able to provide would be invaluable. Also, does
Lancaster have any old hotels still open for business? I would be more than
willing to compensate anyone for their time and coping and postal expenses
should the uncover information.

Searching for any information about John and Catherine BAKEY, their son James, and daughters Mari, Catherine and Eliza who appear on the Census of 1860 living in Hazel Green Township. John and Catherine were born in Ireland in the 1820s, son James born in PA, and daughters in WI. My direct line of BAKEYs comes from PA. I am researching the entire BAKEY tree (which I believe will not be a large tree!). Believe the John BAKEY family of Wisconsin is the link between Iowa and other western BAKEYs and my PA family. Happy to share information I have so far.
