M. T. CAMP, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Platteville, Grant county, was born at that place in 1847, and is a worthy representative of one of its prominent pioneer families. His father, William CAMP, came here in early manhood, and was married in Platteville to Miss Sarah GILLMAN, a native of Illinois, who came to Grant county in 1832 with her parents, Charles and Lucinda GILLMAN, whose last days were spent in Platteville. M. T. CAMP had a brother, John, who served three years in the Civil war as a member of the 10th Wis. V.I., and one year in the 44th Regiment.

Responding to his country's call for aid during the dark days of the Rebellion, Mr. CAMP enlisted, at Platteville, in November, 1863, for three years or during the war, and was mustered in at Madison, Wis., as a member of Company C, 7th Wis. V.I., which became a part of the Army of the Potomac. Mr. CAMP participated in all the engagements in which his command took part, including the battles of the Wilderness, Laurel Hill and Spotsylvania. When the war ended he received an honorable discharge, in July, 1865, and returned to his home in Platteville. He is now a member of W. T. Sherman Post, No. 66, G.A.R. Politically he is a stalwart supporter of the men and measures of the Republican party.

On Dec. 25, 1867, Mr. CAMP was married, in Platteville, to Miss Margaret EDWARDS, a daughter of William EDWARDS. They are widely and favorably known, and have many friends in the community where they reside.
