CHARLES CROFT, farmer and minister, Sec. 12; P. O. Wesley; was born in 1840 in Yorkshire, England; son of William and Rebecca Croft; he received a common school education, and emigrated to America in 1842, locating in Rock Co., Wis., where he lived for eleven years; going thence to Grant Co., where he has lived since. He was married in 1860 to Sarah Hutchison, daughter of Joseph and Mary Hutchison, of Grant Co.; they have eight children - Mary R., William J., Ferguson A., Flora E., Charles E., John W., Bertha J. and Ethel A. Has 240 acres of land. He enlisted in 1864, in Co. C, 25th W. V. I., and served seventeen months; was in four battles, and was wounded at Decatur, Ga., in the right arm. he has been a minister in the United Brethren Church since 1878, and previous to that date was a minister in the Primitive Church.
