EDYVEAN, OSBORNE
Joyce Harris Sat Sep 30 2000 10:35 am
My maternal 3 x gt.grandfather Stephen OSBORNE was born 1776 in St Hilary,
Cornwall, England, and as a widower he left England in 1848, with his son
Samuel Edwards OSBORNE (known as Edward), and his family. They settled in
Grant County where a Cornish settlement had been established.
Samuel Edwards (Edward) OSBORNE married Elizabeth EDYVEAN, and their
children, born between 1833 and 1843, who went with them from Cornwall to
England were Edward, Elizabeth Anne, Robert, Catherine, Betsy and Lydia.
I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who is researching this family,
or knows anything of them.

BRODIE, CENTER
David Thomson Fri Sep 22 2000 1:09 am
My gx4-grandfather William BRODIE had a sister Mary who married Alexander
CENTER in Monquhitter parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland between 1805-1810.
In 1843 Alexander, Mary and some of their children emigrated from Scotland
through Canada to Wisconsin. Their son John CENTER is shown in the
Wisconsin Land Office records as having obtained grants totalling 160 acres
in the NE 1/4 of Section 28, Township 2N, Range 1W in 1845 and 1848. I
have calculated that this land was in Grant Co., and hope that I am correct.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this family and what happened to them?
There are a number of other CENTER researchers with connections to the
family who would also be interested.
Thanks,
David Thomson

I am searching for information on my father’s family. He was Floyd Harrison Crabtree, born May 24, 1890 in Greene, Butler County, Iowa. He served in the U. S Navy from 1911 to 1928 and was on active combat duty during World War I.
Floyd’s parents were Robert W. Crabtree and Lottie Barnett. Robert W. was sister to Mary Crabtree, who married William F. Crouse on April 12, 1866 in Grant County, Wisconsin, and moved to Greene in 1969. It is possible that they all came to Iowa from Wisconsin at the same time. I do know that both families moved to Shawnee Oklahoma at around the turn of the century. I also have reference to an "Aunt Lou" who seems to be of this generation, not sure whether a Barnett or Crabtree. She was either the daughter or daughter-in-law of Mrs. Nancy Colwell.
Floyd’s siblings were Adah, Ethel (m.Jim Bird), Lou (m. Joe Street, son John Gray Street), Earl, Art (m Trude, daughters Helen, Evylyn), at least two more brothers, possibly Robert and William.. I have family picture albums, with lots of given names, but I haven’t been able to sort them all out yet. There pictures of a John Wesley .

My grandfather, Ray Stanley HARPER, was born Sept. 28, 1892, in
Bloomington, Grant County, Wisconsin, to Thomas William HARPER, born in
Beetown, Grant Co., Wi., and Clara ORR, born in Bloomington. Their first
child, Bessie, was born on Jan. 13, 1886, so they were probably married
in the early 1880's. They were probably born between 1850 and 1865.
Thier other children were: Cora Lee, born Feb. 6, 1888; Charlie T., born
Sept. 4, 1889; and Walter Duncan, born Sept. 18, 1895. All were born in
Grant County. There was also a half-sister, Minnie CARNES. I assume
CARNES is her married name.

I have been trying to find proof that my COLLINS family was in Grant Co. at
least by 1940. James COLLINS and his wife Lydia had four children while
living in Grant Co. They were Henry, born about 1840; Mary, born about
1841; William, born about 1842 and Norman, born May 04, 1845. They
had property in Richland Co. at Orion, which was on the Grant Co. line and
am wondering if the James Collins who had property in Grant Co. was
connected in some way. Henry, William and Norman were all in the Civil War
but entered from Richland Co. The pension papers of all three say they
were born at Platt or Platteville. Can anyone help me. I don't even know
the maiden name of James wife Lydia. Any scrap of information will be
