BATES, COOK

Marita Lee Tue Jun 9 19:46:01 1998
I am seeking to find the ancestry of my great-grandfather, William Shannon COOK. He was in Grant Co. by 1840 when he bought land from John P. COOK. Wm. married Anna BATES at Hazel Green in Grant Co. in 1847. They lived in Lafayette Co., near Benton, then at Clifton--Livingston area in Grant Co. until 1875. Other COOK families also lived in that area at the same time. Were they related? William S. COOK was born in Ohio abt. 1812/14, his father is said to have been born in New Jersey. William S. COOK died near Simpson, Mitchell Co. Kansas in 1890. Anna BATES died near there in 1900. Seeking any COOK--BATES family information of ones who lived in that area of Grant Co. WI. 1840 to 1870.

Thanks Marita Brewer-Lee ... [email protected]

BENNOR, MERRITT

Duane Olson Tue Jun 9 16:57:17 1998
I am seeking information about John BENNOR who obtained land through the General Land Office in Grant County in the year 1854. I believe there might be a connection between John BENNOR and Griffen BENNOR. Griffen BENNOR, who is in my wife's family line, married Emily MERRITT of Grant County. Emily was born in Grant County on 11 Nov 1848. Griffen BENNOR was born on 25 Oct 1838, probably in Jo Daviess County, IL. I have no other information about John BENNOR, but thought that perhaps the two Bennors might be related. I have been unable to trace the parents of Griffen BENNOR, so I thought that, if John BENNOR was related it would provide some help. The BENNOR family name is not a common one.

Any help, or information about either John or Griffen BENNOR would be much appreciated.

DOYLE

Nora Doyle Stafford Fri May 8 20:38:05 1998
I have located many of my relatives living in Hazel Green, Wisconsin in Grant county. I am specifically looking for relatives with the DOYLE surname. I am looking for John DOYLE b. 1811 County Wicklow , Ireland and his spouse, Mary Brady DOYLE, b. 1821 also in County Wicklow, Ireland. They had six children, 8 children, Terence,b. 1841, Anna, Thomas,b.1853, James,b. 1854, Garret,b.1855, Sarah, b. 1860, Edward, 1861, and John. I know that John and Mary emigrated from Ireland, in 1846. John was married twice, his first wife's maiden name was Farrell, they had four children, two of which were living in 1880. Their names were Terence and Anna. I am looking for any information on this family. I think that John DOYLE may have had some brothers living in the area. I am trying to find out if this is indeed true. I have a Garrett DOYLE living next to Garret, Jr. listed on the 1900 Soundex. He was born in 1825 in Ireland. His wife's name was Rosa. She was born in 1826.

Also listed on the 1880 census for Grant County are possible brothers of John DOYLE: Patrick DOYLE, b. 1809, Andrew DOYLE, b. 1813.

Any information is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Nora Doyle Stafford

I found an original land grant in an antique store today in Florida. It is issued to a Daniel ROSEMAN of Grant Co, WISC, dated Nov 10, 1855. Says township 6, section 3, etc. It is signed by Pres. Franklin Pierce. I didn't buy it because it was $400! But someone that is a descendant may splurge for it! It is a nice size and in good condition for framing. Julie H.
