L.S. was a partner in OSBORN & COBB Dry Goods Store. From what I have
found, Tafton later became Bloomington in the late 1860's.

I am looking for the identity of a BEACH, Wood R. who appears in the land
records of Wisconsin as having taken out a 40 acre land claim in Grant
County in 1848. Need to know if this was his real name or possibly the
records were transcribed incorrectly and he is a BEACHWOOD. My husband is
descended from George BEACHWOOD who homesteaded in Clark County WI in
1883, but we have found no information about his father or possible
siblings and so I am interested in this lead. Thanks for any help you can

Thomas and Sarah (MCKINNEY)ELLIOTT moved to Richland Co. about 1848 has
large family and both died in the early 1860's.
John MCKINNEY was living with Thomas and Sarah in 1860 census. Wife's
name was Temperance. John and Mary (STOUT?)MCKINNEY. Moved from IL and
Grant Co. WI to Excelsior, WI. Large family including John Silas
MCKINNEY of Excelsior. Vincent B. and Elizabeth (MCKINNEY) MORGAN in
Richland 1850 census. Daughter first children born in county about 1842.
William and Margaret (WALLANCE) VANCE and family. Moved to area about
1856. Jacob and Anna (WALLACE) VANCE moved to area about 1856. Girls
are daughters of Isam and Mary (JONES) WALLACE also of Richland Co.
. Believe John and Temperance to be parents of the other MCKINNEYs
family may also have included Charles, Joseph and Burrell MCKINNEY of
neighboring Grant and Crawford Co. Son of William and Margaret VANCE
married daughter of Burrell MCKINNEY.

The PARISH family settled in southeastern Wisconsin in about
1820, near the town of Monfort, Grant County (?). There is
a "Parish Bluff" on a nearby river, and many of the headstones
in the Monfort cemetery bear the PARISH name. Some of the
early settlers' names were HENRY PARISH and AMERICUS PARISH.
I'm looking into their history in Wisconsin, Kentucky,
and Virginia.

Lived in West Liberty, Morgan Co., Kentucky, when first child, Rufus M.
DAY, was born, 18 Nov. 1835. Was in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, in
1839
when Jemima DAY was born. Was in Grant County, Wisconsin, 1 Dec. 1841,
when third child, Theodore Barber DAY, was born.
Burial "near Wright house."
Obituary of step-son, James Johnson McKENZIE, says John DAY died in
April, 1842.
Other records say 1 April 1846.
Elizabeth McKENZIE died 2 February 1861 at Melrose, Grant, Wisc.
Seek any additional information on this couple or descendants.

"Sally" Tolly WILLIAMS and their families. They arrived in
Grant Count 1848 to 1850.
Also looking for the marriage of John or Lewis CROW and Elizabeth
"Ellen" WILLIAMS, and any information on their daughter Sarah
CROW, who allegedly died as a young girl. Sarah CROW was 6 years old
when her mother married Stuckley Winslow HARDING in 1857. Any

My gr gr gr gr grandmother Lavinah DARROW or DARRAH m in
Vermont Gideon HAWLEY. She came to Ill 1818, Tazewell Co 1822.
The following is an account written by descendant in 1908
"in 1845, in company with others, Pierce HAWLEY and his
large family were on the boat "Gen. BROOKS" enroute for
LaCrosse Wisc The mother (Lavinah), by this time infirm, died
on the boat. Since the boat could not stop long enough for a
burial, he gave his mother's body into the hands of the Masons
in the town of POTOSI WISC with implicit confidence that it would
be carefully, even tenderly buried."
She was the mother of Gideon HAWLEY, a close friend of LINCOLN
ANY information at all is appriciated. Was she buried carefully?

Trying to locate any info on the BISHOP & JANSSEN families of
Kieler, WI. Grant Co. Looking for Louis A. BISHOP b. 8-16-1857
in Kieler. He had a brother, Herman BISHOP who later moved to
Dubuque, IA. His sisters were Christina, married L. HAESLER
(Dubuque, IA),Frances, married Wm. HOSCH (Dubuque,IA), a nun,
Sister Appoplonia of Wisconsin. and a Mrs. S. BRANDT of Kieler,
WI. Maybe more siblings as well. He spoke German and was born
and raised in Kieler, WI. He married a local girl, Mary Ann
JANSSEN, b. 9-22-1861 (married Feb. 14th or 15th 1881 at Kieler.
Louis A. BISHOP died 3-5-1919 and was divorced from Mary Ann at
the time he died. He lived in Dyersville, IA most of his adult
life, and was a well-driller. They came to Dyersville, IA @ 1885.
Mary Ann JANSSEN BISHOP died 9-16-1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA. She
buried in Dyersville. I'm not sure where Louis is buried.
Mary Ann had one known brother, Wm. JANSSEN of LeMars, IA.
Having a terrible time trying to locate info on these families!

BANEK - Maggie, b:c1872 Wisconsin. Only clue is photograph taken
in Cassville c1892. She married Charles ALDOUS [when? where?] and
had my grandmother Hazel Lucille ALDOUS born Dubuque 1895. On birth
certificate says Maggie BANEK mother, 3rd child of this mother.
I don't know who the other children were - any BANEK's out there
please? I don't know whether BANEK maiden name or from previous
marriage. She was off the scene by 1898 when Charles re-married
to Susan Barrow LIEB. He came to USA from London c 1891 and worked
Exeter Ontario Apr-Jul 1891, Chicago Gt Western Railway Aug-Oct 1891,
J L Sanders, Galena, Ill. Nov 1892, M J Mulgrew, Dubuque Dec 1892
to Jan 1896, H T Banton, Waterloo, Iowa Feb 1896-Jun1898.

Amanda Evaline McWILLIAMS married John Thomas Clellan BLACK on
November 01, 1858 in Platteville, Grant Co., Wisconsin.
The couple were married by Isaac SLATER, a resident of
Platteville and a "Minister of the Gospel." Wondering about
the church in which they were married (and, of course,
any other details). Isaac SLATER's church?
John C. BLACK went off to the Civil War and died of fever
in Atlanta during (or before) Sherman's March to the Sea.
Amanda's parents were Alexander and Martha Patsy (YOAKUM)
McWILLIAMS.
(I've got lots more on connections to all these individuals)

MCKINNEY, daughter of ??? KALTENBRUNN and Maria SCHMIEDER. She was born
in Baden, Germany abt 1845 and I suspect she came to this area and then married.
She was a legatee on her uncle's will and collected her inheritance in
Grant County in person c1888.

Needing to locate any information on the following:
Charles Henry LADD, b. 1846, WI and appears in Grant Co. as enlisting in
the Civil War from Boscobel. His parents "may" have been John
L.[S] LADD in the 1850 Census there. However, this is not a certain
thing. Charles Henry LADD married Henrietta Maria RICHMOND whose father
was Charles W. RICHMOND. A brother of Charles W. RICHMOND, Thomas
RICHMOND appears also to have moved into that area. The wives of Charles
W. RICHMOND and Thomas RICHMOND were sisters, Fidelia and Carolyn WARE.
Emerson RICHMOND also was in the same company in the Civil War with
Charles Henry LADD. Any information about these families will be very

Two known children, Ella Barbara COLLOGAN, b 1871 Grant Co,
d 1943 Alamosa, Colo., and Mamie COLLOGAN, b abt 1880 Dubuque,
Ia, d 1902 Phillips Co, Ks. Ella married John Wesley ROBERTS
and Mamie married his brother Herbert Albert ROBERTS.

JOHNSON, LINCOLN and STIGARS. Ann Taylor DEVOE d/o Robert and Lydia
KENDRICK DEVOE was born in Montfort, Grant Co. 2 Dec. 1847 she married
William Haynes JOHNSON in the area in 1866. His father Enock JOHNSON died
1874 and is buried in the Rock Church Cemetery as is his wife Sarah
STIGARS JOHNSON. George KENDRICK died in 1850 and is also buried in the

County Wisconsin with their 5 children abt 1850. All of their
children married in Grant County in 1851, 1853, 1854, 1855, 1863
and 1869. Abigail died in 1856, and Jacob remarried Elizabeth
Lindsey TOUSEY June 23, 1856.
The grandchildren of Jacob and Abigail married those with surname
of DIXON**PURINGTON***PETTIT**HAVENS**EGGLESTON**RICE**GIBBS**
URICH**JACOBSEN.
I have collected many facts on these descendants of Jacob and

Page 132, federal census for 1860 in Lancaster, Grant Co., Wisconsin has
a listing for a Sarah WILLIAMS. I am searching for a Sarah
"Sally" TOLLEY WILLIAMS who married Hutchins WILLIAMS in Mercer
Co. Ky. June 1, 1830. I believe that both Sarah and Hutchins may have
died in Grant County, before 1870. No further records appear to exist on
either of them after this time.
The family names of those who came to Grant, and Iowa Counties are
WILLIAMS, BURTON, TOLLEY, HARBISON. I would like to correspond with

Frank T., and Cyrus M. According to family bible Frank T. m. in
1883 in Grant Co. WI. I would like to find out to whom and what
happened to her. Frank T. shows up later in MN where he m.
Julia C. GALVIN in 1887. They had a daughter Minnie b. Apr 1889
Frank moved his family to Cass Co, ND sometime during the 1890's
Frank d. 1903 Cass Co. ND. I'll appreciate all information I

I am searching for information on Hutchins WILLIAMS, who was born about
1801 in Mercer County, Kentucky to John and Mary BURTON WILLIAMS.
Hutchins came to Grant County, Blue River Township(?) Wisconsin in 1840
and census records for 1840,1850, 1860 list him there with some members
of his family. His daughter Elizabeth "Ellen" Williams CROW
HARDING, her daughter Sarah CROW, her husband Stuckley Winslow HARDING,
and their children Gordon Daniel HARDING, Frances Celona HARDING, and
William Harvey HARDING, the baby who was born in Racine. After 1860 my
great, great, great, grandfather, Hutchins Williams appears to vanish
from the earth. His wife, Sarah "Sally" TOLLEY was not listed
with the family on any of the census records, and may have died in Grant
County before 1850. Any information would be appreciated. Happy New Year!
