1889 deaths contributed by Janet (Bruce) Nelson:

David and Cynthia(Smith) Bruce, settled in Dodge County in April 1843 (came to Burlington in 1842) and is mentioned in the history of the county. He was a member of the Old Settlers Club.

In their old age, they went out in 1888 to live and be cared for by their oldest child, Electa Sarah (Bruce) Bixby at Shellsburg, Benton Co, Iowa. They died there within a couple days of each other. Cynthia died on July 1 and David died on July 4, 1889. They were buried near Electa's farm.
