On January 6, 1842, Marlin Scheffer and his wife deeded section 2-1-19 in Wheatland Township to St. Alphonsus Church for a cemetery.
The cemetery is located directly east of the church in the village of New Munster and north of Geneva Road (now known locally as Old Highway 50). (Geneva Road runs from the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 83 to the intersection of Geneva Road with Highway P in Slades Corners.)
These cemetery records were collected by Lois Roepke Bader-Stein in 1973. For purposes of data collection the cemetery was divided into three sections. Section I is found at the southwest corner of the cemetery, west of the cemetery road. Section II is also found west of the north-south cemetery road and north of Section I. Section III contains all monuments east of the cemetery road.
The file was put in this format as it appears in the original document (for the most part). The names are arranged in a mostly alphabetical way by section (as they appeared in the original). Unlike the original 1973 cemetery record, this record also contains the calculated age of each individual if enough information was available. In some cases, the birth date was calculated given the date of death and age of the person at death. Those cases are indicated under the notes column. Errors are known to exist in this document, and none of the information was verified before making this document available here. If you find errors, please use the following form to submit corrections.
