Maxine L. Est, 66, of 1832 E. Sixth St., Superior, died Oct. 2 at her summer home in Iron River. She was born in Superior and lived in Iron River until moving to Superior. She was a long time resident of East End Superior. Mrs. East was president of East End Hardware and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; two daughters, Diane Grimsrud of Superior and Susan Kranz of Beloit; four grandchildren, Sheila and Rhonda Gunderson of Superior and Trent and Barry Mitchell of Beloit. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church.

DIED. EDDY-At his home on Third Street, on Saturday, January 27, John Eddy, age 41 years, 5 months and 2 days. The sudden death of John Eddy last Saturday night was a shock to the community. Mr. Eddy and his family had been out to a neighbors to spend the evening and upon returning home had just entered his house when he fell dead. The deceased was a member of the I.O.O.F. and A.O.U.W. of Bayfield. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and were conducted by the Odd Fellows. Rev. A. B. Soule preached the funeral sermon at the Methodist church, of which Mr. Eddy was a member. Mr. Eddy was born August 25, 1858 at Port Luen [see notes], Cornwall, England, began life as a sailor at 14 year of age; married Miss Katie Clark April 23, 1872[see notes], at Dublin Ireland; came to America in May 1886; worked in Superior mine at Ishpeming, Michigan, until 1891; worked in a machine shop at Marquette one and one-half years, and then was appointed as light keeper by the government, the last four years being stationed at Raspberry Island. A wife and two chldren are left to mourn his death. Mr. and Mrs. John Norris, of Ishpehming, were here to attend the funeral. Mrs. Norris is a sister of the deceased.

NOTES: Eddy's birth place is erroneously listed as Port Luen. It should correctly read Porthleven, based on post card in the possession of Catherine Prien Carroll, granddaugher of the deceased. Marriage date is in error, and is likely 1882, rather than 1872. Ishpeming is spelled Ishpheming in the final paragraph. The probability is that the spelling has always been Ishpeming, without the extra 'h'.

RESOLUTIONS OF CONDOLENCE HARBOR CITY LODGE NO. 69, I.O.O.F WHEREAS, It has pleased the Supreme Ruler of the Universe to remove from our midst and summon to his final abode beyond the river, our beloved and esteemed brother, John Eddy; therefore be it RESOLVED, That while we humbly and reverently bow to the will of Him who doeth all things well, yet the bonds of friendship, the ties of fraternity and the respect we hold for each of our members, all constrain us to deeply mourn the loss of our beloved brother, John Eddy: therefore be it further RESOLVED, That we shall ever hold in high respect and grateful memory the virtues of our deceased brother, his love for the principals of our order, and his untiring energy in promoting its welfare. RESOLVED, That we extend to the bereaved relatives of our deceased brother our tender sympathy, in this, their hour of sorrow and distress; also, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon our minutes, a copy be sent to the relatives of our deceased brother and a copy to the Bayfield Press for publication.

Marie W. Ekholm, 65, Arleta, Calif., a former Washburn resident died Jan. 8 at a Van Nuys, Calif. hospital. She was born Sept. 19, 1919 in North Dakota. On June 11, 1939, whe was married at Bessemer to Roy E. Ekholm. Mrs. Ekholm was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Washburn.
Surviving are her husband, Roy; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Linnea) Monteon, Arleta, Calif.; Mrs. Dale (Dianne) Rose, Washburn; two sons, Dennis, Washburn; and Robert, Watertown, Wis,; her mother, Mrs. Hazel Ottman, Semi Valley, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Mrs. Harold (Florence) Halvorsen, Semi Valley, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and two daughters, Karen and Darlene.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Messiah Lutheran Church,Washburn, with the Rev. Ronald Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Youth Commits Rash Act During a Lovers' Quarrel-Jealousy Believed to Have Prompted Deed
ASHLAND, WIS. AUG. 18.-As result of a lovers' quarrel Miss Louise Billet was shot Monday evening at Ashland at eleven o'clock by George Ellison, who then turned the gun on himself and sent a bullet through his brain, causing instant death.
Young Ellison and his victim attended the carnival earlier in the evening, but they became separated afterwards and Ellison proceeded to the home of the girl, and when she arrived accompanied by a younger sister and her mother, engaged her in conversation while the mother and daughter proceeded on their way home.
After a few words he drew a revolver and shot twice at the girl, both bullets taking effect. Miss Billet was taken to Rhinehart's hospital and late reports say her condition is improving and it is thought she will survive. Ellison was not a drinking man and the only reason for the act is jealousy on his part.
The girl is 21 years of age and lives with her widowed mother, while Ellison is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ellison, well known and respected people of the east end of the city.

EMMONS, MRS. D.K.
OBITUARY
Mrs. D.K. Emmons died at the Sisters' Hospital in Ashland last Saturday morning from cancer of the stomach. The remains were taken to Linden, in the southern part of the state, for burial, and were accompanied by David K. Emmons, Mrs. J.A. Farrow and Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Whalen. Mrs. Emmons, with her sister, Mrs. Farrow, have run a hotel in Bayfield for many years, and have always enjoyed a good patronage, and now, since Mrs. Emmon's death, Mrs. Farrow has decided to close the hotel.

Louis A. Eno, 71, Ashland, died Tuesday evening at the Ashland Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 25, 1913 in the Town of Keystone, the son of Cyril and Victoria Eno. Mr. Eno lived and worked in Minneapolis for 40 years as a security guard for Turbodyne Corporation, retiring in 1976. He moved to the Ashland area in September, 1981.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Garasha, Washburn; Mrs. John (Lillian) Viater, Chicago Heights, Ill.; Mrs. Vernon (Betty) Bennett, Ashland; three brothers, Vernon, Cloquet, Minn.; Lloyd, Washburn; and Robert, Ashland; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday at the Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn, with the Rev. Frank Hostetter officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Gustav Y. Erickson, 77, Herbster, died Oct. 26 (1985) in an Edmonds, Wash., hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1908 at Kumla, Sweden. Mr. Erickson spent his early years working as a commercial fisherman and woodsman. From 1950 until his retirement in 1971, he was a carpenter for the E.I. DuPont Company at Barksdale. On Aug. 5, 1937 he was married at Washburn to Tina Sytsma. Mr. Erickson was a member of the Washburn Masonic Lodge No. 240, F&AM , and the Herbster Community Church.
Surviving are his wife, Tina, Herbster; one son, Rollie Erickson, Edmonds, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Glenda Stycket, Edmonds, Wash.; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, John Erickson, Iron River; a sister, Gerda Erickson, Chicago; and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Herbster Community Church, with the Rev. Rey Pady officiating. Burial will be in the Herbster Community Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn. A Masonic service was held there at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been set up for the Herbster Community Church.

Joyce E. Erickson, 69, of Bayfield died Saturday at her residence. She had been employed by the
Ellerbe Corporation, Raspberry Island. She married Melvin M. Erickson at Bessemer, Mich. On Aug. 29,
1932. She was a member of the Republican Party, the Cancer Society, the Bayfield Band Mothers and
the Homemakers Club. She was past president of the Junior Civic League; had served on the Library
Board; and was choir director and a member of the Bayfield Presbyterian church.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin; one son, John, Bayfield; a daughter Mrs. Janet Graf,
Sheboygan; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert
Bryan, Chattanooga, Tenn. And John Bryan, Jacksonville, Fla; a sister Mrs. Virginia Weaver,
Chattanooga, Tenn; and her mother, Deane Bryan, Washburn.
There was visitation Sunday night at the Overholser Funeral Home in Bayfield. Funeral services were
held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Overholser Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery
