Carl O. Dahl, 78, of rural Bayfield, died Wednesday at his residence. He was born Dec. 18, 1906 at Bayfield and was a resident of Sand Island and Bayfield most of his life. He served four years with the U.S. Navy and worked as a fisherman and tugman.
He was a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge F&AM 215 of Bayfield and a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church of Bayfield. He married the former Alma Hansen of Sand Island. She survives him.
Survivors also include; three sons Frederick Dahl of Marquette, Mich., Carl Dahl of Lakewood, Col. and Robert Dahl of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters Mrs. Wallis (Constance) Durham and Sharon Dahl, both of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Melvin Dahl of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Constance Dahl, and by two sisters, Bessie Palm and Mabel Loftfield.
A Masonic memorial was held in memory of Mr. Dahl at the Masonic Lodge in Bayfield on Wednesday. Friends are also welcome to attend memorial services at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bayfield on Thursday, July 18 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Peter Gunderson officiating.

Daniel Daley, who has been suffering with that terrible complaint consumption for some time, quietly passed away Saturday last. Mr. Daley has been a resident of Washburn for the past year and has made many warm friends who unite with his family in mourning the loss of a kind friend and indulgent parent. Mrs. Sarah Daly, a pioneer resident of Port Wing, and mother of our cashier, Dan J. Daly, passed away Feb. 17, 1943, and her funeral will be held Saturday morning. Out of respect for her and our cashier, the First State Bank of Port Wing and the station at Iron River will be closed Feb. 20th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. duiring which hour the funeral will be held. OBITUARY
Walter L. Daniels, Jr., 80, Rte. 1 Box 347, Bayfield, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 1995 at this residence.
He was born Feb. 18, 1915, at Bayfield, the son of Walter and Emma (Hahn) Daniels, Sr.
He worked on Outer Island with his father as a lighthouse keeper.
He sailed on the ore boats for seeral years and worked as a house painter until retiring in 1978. After retiring, he was the caretaker of the Bayfield Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one sister, Isabell Cassidy, Bayfield; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother.
Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn, with Rev. John Green officiating.

Glenn W. Davies, Jr., 53, Milwaukee, who is known in the Cornucopia-Herbster area, died May 16 [1985] in Milwaukee. He was born July 10, 1931 at Waukesha, the son of Glenn and Lorraine Davies. Mr. Davies worked for the Milwaukee School Board as a truck driver for about 20 years. He served with the National Guard for several years, and was a member of St. John's Cathedral, Milwaukee.
Surviving are three sons, Michael, Sr., Patrick and Joseph; three daughters, Mrs. Kevin (Kathleen) Davis, Mary Davies and Anne Davies, all of Milwaukee; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, David Davies, Westerville, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Ray (Ann) Reha, Herbster. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Cornucopia, with the Rev. Fr. Willi Schmidt officiating. Burial was in the Herbster Community Cemetery. There was no public visitation. The Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn, was in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY DAY, LOUIS
Louis, the thirteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Day, of this city, passed away at the home of his parents last Thursday, March seventh. Funeral serices were conducted Saturday morning from the Holy Family Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Ubald Otto officiating at the ceremoney. Interment was in Calvary cemetery.
The little boy had been an invalid for several months, a sufferer from tuberculosis. His death brings sorrow to all who knew him and the bereaved parents have the sincere sympathy of the community.

The obituary for Celia DePerry, same issue of the Press, refers to him as Rev. Fr. Ubald. Otto is more probably the first name, and this specific article inadvertently reversed the order of first and last names.
OBITUARY MORRIS DAY
Morris Day, the seventeen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Day, residents of this city, passed away Tuesday morning at the home of his parents. The deceased was troubled with tuberculosis, against which he made a valiant fight, but finally succumbed Tuesday.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning from Holy Family Catholic Church and the remains laid at rest in Calvary cemetery. Besides his parents, several brothers and sisters mourn the young man's untimely death and the sympathy of the community is extended to them in this, their hour of bereavement and deep sorrow.

Peter De Briae was born in Buffalo, N.Y. May 8th, 1844. When but a small boy he went to live at St. James, Michigan. In 1867 he married Adelia Smith and three years later he moved to Bayfield where he fished and worked at the cooper trade. In the fall of 1875 he moved to Odell, Illinois, and there he worked at coopering and as a carpenter for seven years. In the spring of 1882 he returned to Bayfield and resided here until 1918. Since then he has lived most of the time with his daughter, Mrs. Theda Blomberg in Minneapolis.
On May 23rd he fell and broke his hip. Although he was recovering from this injury, in his weakened condition he was not able to withstand the heat wave which swept the country early in July, and passed away on the morning of July 12th.
He is survived by four sons, John and Newton of Chicago; Anson of Ashland, Wis.; and Fred of Detroit, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs Alice Kent of Duluth; Mrs Theda Blomberg of Minneapolis.; and Rett Taylor of Detroit; three brothers, Edward of Chicago; and George and John of St. James, Michigan. Twenty-four grand-children, twenty-two great-grand-children and six great-great-grandchildren are left to morn his passing.
He was one of the oldest members of the Masonic Lodge, F.&A.M., of Bayfield and his funeral was conducted under the rites of the order in Minneapolis, July 15.

Mrs. Peter DeBriae Passed Away At
the Family Home Near Here
Friday Evening Last.
Much regent has been occasioned by the death of Mrs. Peter De Briae last Friday at the family residence on Salmo road. Mrs. DeBriae was one of Bayfield old-time residents, and though of ill health for some time, her death, nevertheless, is a great shock to her relatives and the community.
Mrs. DeBriae was a woman of most estimable character, of sweet and gentle disposition and numbered among her friends most of Bayfield residents who join with the Press in expression of sorrow at her demise, and in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal Church; Rev. F.C.Knowles. Pastor, officiating. Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery and the body was lowered to its last resting place by six pall-bears, three of whom were sons of the deceased, one a grandson and another a son-in-law. The pall-bears were Nelson DeBriae, Anson DeBriae, Fred DeBriae, Thomas Kent, Richard Kent and I.L.. Alock.
Mrs. Peter DeBriae whose maiden name was Adelia Smith, was born in Michigan December 30th, 1842. She was united in marriage to Mr. DeBriae in 1867. Three years later the couple came to Bayfield to reside, but in 1876 the family moved to Illinois, returning, however, in 1883 to this city, where they have resided since.
To mourn her death, Mrs DeBriae leaves a husband and eight children, the five sons being Nelson of Port Wing, John on the great lakes, Anson of Ashland, Newton, of Madison and Fred of Bayfield; and the daughters are Mrs. Thomas Kent of Bayfield, Mrs. Blomberg, of Minneapolis and Mrs Floyd Taylor of Detroit. All the children, with the exception of John and Newton were present at the funeral service.

Albo H. DeGiacinto, 67, Herbster, died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center, Ashland. He was born April 24, 1918 in Chicago, the son of Carlos and Paulina DeGiacinto He had been a resident of Herbster since 1921. On Aug. 17, 1957 he was married at Herbster to Pearl Williams. Mr. DeGiacinto was owner-operator of Vista Del Lago restaurant for 28 years. During this time he also worked as a commercial fisherman, and was employed at the DuPont Plant at Barksdale for a number of years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Herbster and was active with the Herbster Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife Pearl; his mother, Paulina, both of Herbster; one daughter, Mrs. Scott (Melanie) Ogren, Iron River; three step-daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Judy) Tabelle, Superior; Mrs. James (Kathleen) Darwin, Madison; and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Gustafson, Port Wing; and six grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Bruno, Harrisburg, Ill.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Brendan Kunda officiating. Burial will be in the Herbster Community Cemetery. Visitation was at the Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn. There wasa rosary service. Visitation was Saturday at the church.

DENNIS, MRS. JOE
OBITUARY
Mrs. Joe Dennis, whose Indian name is Gish-ki-jance, died at her home in this city Wednesday moring at 8 o'clock. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church this morning.
Mrs. Dennis was 73 years of age, was born at LaPointe and has resided in this vicinity since her birth. Whe was one of the grandchildren of the original Chief Buffalo.
Two sisters and two brothers, all residing in Bayfield, are left to mourn her death. They are Mrs. Robt. Morrin Sr., Mrs Mary Stevens, Dennis Deragon and Michael Deragon.

OBITUARY DE PERRY, CELIA
Mrs. Celia DePerry, wife of Mr. Mose DePerry, died at her home in this city Sunday after a long illness. Deceased was thirty five years of age. Funeral services were held at the Holy Family Catholic church Wednesday and interment was made at Cavalry cemetery. Rev. Fr. Ubald officiated at the last rites.
To mourn her demise, besides a number of brothers and sisters, Mrs. DePerry leaves her husband and one son, Anton. The Press extendsy sympathy to the bereaved relatives and friends in their hour of sorrow.

The following news item, taken from the Milwaukee Sentinel, was sent up from Milwaukee Tuesday by John Mulloy, who is down there attending his sister's funeral:
"Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Mrs. Margaret F. Derse, who died Saturaday [June 3, 1939] at her home, 6610 W. Capitol Dr. She was the wife of Robert M. Derse, principal of Victor L. Berger school, and the mother of Dr. Fabian Derse.
The rites will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Feerick Chapel, 4620 W. North ave., and at 9 a.m. at the Mother of Good Counsel church. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
Mrs. Derse was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Thomas Aquinas court, 862, and the Christian Mother's society of the Mother of Good Counsel church.
Besides her husband and son, she is survived by her brother, William and John Mulloy; a sister, and Anna Mulloy, and four grandchildren.
THE IRON RIVER PIONEER, BAYFIELD COUNTY, WISCONSIN June 8, 1939
Mrs. Mathilda L. Devine, widow of the late Thomas Devine, of Spooner, died at ther home in that city last Sunday [July 14, 1940], aged 78 years, and the body was laid at rest in the City cemetery here yesterday morning after services at St. Michaels Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. John Dzurko. She had been ill for several months and her death was therefore looked forward to. She was born at St. Ignace, Michigan, on May 24, 1862, and her first husband was John Armbruster, a Civil War veteran who died here many years ago. Mrs. Armbruster married Thomas Devine, of Spooner, and lived at Spooner for the past 28 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Smith, of this city, and Miss Lillian Armbruster, of this city, and one step-son, Barney Devine, chief conservation warden of the state of Wisconsin, Madison; 26 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandxhildren.
THE IRON RIVER PIONEER, BAYFIELD COUNTY, WISCONSIN Thursday, July 18, 1940
Shirley Agnes Dittbrenner, daughter of Frederick and Laura Schneitzler and a former Washburn resident, died October 20 at Ladd Memorial Hospital in Osceola at 59 years old. She was born March 20, 1926 in Glenwood City where she graduated from high school. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Univ. of Wis.-Stout at Menominie in 1948.
She married Arno Dittbrenner at Glenwood City, then settled in Rochester, Wis. and taught at Racine County Agriculture School. The Dittbrenners moved to Balsam Lake in 1954. Mrs. Dittbrenner taught at the Unity School System first as a home economics teacher, then as a Headstart and kindergarten teacher until 1968. She was very active in scouting and received the Silver Beaver award in 1975, was a 4-H leader for 30 years, a Faith Lutheran Sunday School teacher 27 years and its superintendent 14 years, a member of the Balsam Lake Study Club, the library board, president of the 10th District Women's Club, chairman of the Bloodmobile and chairman of the Balsam Lake Community Fund Drive 1980 through 1984.
Mrs. Dittbrenner was preceded in death by a son Arthur and a daughter Nancy, her parents and a sister, Violet. Survivors include her husband Arno; a daughter Julee Dittbrenner of Eagle River; two sons Arnie of West Bend and Ed of Cumberland; three grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Richard (Doris) Kamm of Roberts; two brothers David Schneitzler of New Richmond and Fred Schneitzler of Glenwood City; several aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Faith Lutheran Church in Balsam Lake with Pastor Ronald Stanley officiating. Mrs. Orpha Hansen and Mrs. Terri Anderson sang and were accompanied by Mrs. Dorene Hendrickson. Serving as honorary casket bearers were Elsie Lundberg, Alice Hallen, May Gaylord, Beatrice Mortson, Inez Rasmussen and Katherine Moore. Casket bearers were Peter Nelson, Andrew Mortson, Frank Werner, Guy Williams, Sid Bjorkman and George Motz. Interment was in the Dittbrenner family lot in Woodland Cemetery, Washburn. Park Funeral Home of Centuria was in charge of arrangements.

Frnak Dobson, a farmer and woods worker who has resided in this community for many years, was found dead in the town's horse shed Tuesday [June 1, 1943] evening at 8:30 p.m. He had driven into town from his farm three miles northwest of here early in the day. As the shades of night were falling, a motorist coming from a westerly direction on U.S. Highway 2 reported he saw a horse and buggy, minus a driver, and wondered what the reason was. Carl Anderson suspected at once it could be Frank Dobson's rig and began to look for him. He found the body in the horse barn Officials who investigated the accident are of the opinion that Mr. Dobson, after untying his horse, either got into, or tried to get into the buggy when he fell, landing upon his head, breaking his neck. This suspicion was confirmed by Dr. Fred Johnson, who examined the body, and indicated the neck was broken. Frank had long been afflicted with heart trouble, and those who knew his condition were not surprised at his sudden death. He was 67 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Martha, one son, Theodore, who is working in Greenland on a government project, three small children at home, and a brother in Michigan. The funeral will be held Friday at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. C.A. Aherns officiating. Burial will be in the Iron River Cemetery.

Doris Anderson Domann of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, died in a Milwaukee hospital on February 5th of injuries received in an automobile accident on January 27th. Doris Domann was born in Washburn on May 5th, 1927, the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Jennie Anderson. She graduated from Washburn High School in the Class of 1945. In 1949 she received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Following graduation she was a music insructor in the Platteville, Wisconsin and Prince George County, Maryland, public schools.
On June 17, 1950, she was married to William A. Domann in Washburn. Since then the Domanns have lived iin Menomonee Falls, were Doris hs been involved in community, church and music activities. She was currently president of the Menomonee Falls Women's Club and was past president of the Menomonee Falls Historical Society. She was a life member of the Bayfield County Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Willim A. Domann, three sons, William Jr., and Thomas, of Burlingame, California, and Richard (Cynthia) and a grandson, Jonathon, of Eau Claire. She is also survived by two brothers, Arthur, Rockford, Illinois, and John, Bayfield; a sister, Janet O'Byron, Hartford, Wisconsisn and several nieces and nephews. She was a niece of Reinard Johnson of Washburn.
A memorial service was held on February 8th in the Emmanuel Community United Methodist Church, Menomonee Falls, with burial at Sunnyside Cemetery. mr. and Mrs. Harvey Rhody, Menomonee Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Geisert, Cedarburg, former Washburnites, were among those attending the service.

BABE SMOTHERS IN CARRIAGE
Washburn Child the Victim of a Peculiar Accident When the Mother Was Away for A Short Time.
WASHBURN, July 28-The five months old child of Mr. and Mrs. Sid Doucette of West Omaha Street was smothered to death here yesterday afternoon by falling over its carriage. The child had been placed in the carriage as was usual, and had been left but a little time. When the mother turned she found the baby lying across the strap in the front of the carriage, and to her surprise when she picked up the little one it was dead. The child after having fallen over had been unable to rise itself from the strap and had been suffocated.

Mrs. M. A. Duclo departed this life last Saturday morning after a lingering illness. Deceased leaves a husband and one son to mourn her death. Funeral services were held in the Episcopal church of which deceased was a member --Sunday, conducted by Rev. W. P. Hill.

Wednesday morning last, about one o'clock, the tug "Pacific" exploded her boiler while lying at Mueller & Ritchie's mill at Ashland, the only party on board at the time being Michel Duclos, the engineer, who was so badly scalded that he only lived a few hours. Mr. Duclos was a resident of this village, coming here from Detroit some four years ago with his wife and one child. His business was that of stationary engineer and he worked in that capacity on various boats and in the mill at this place. His wife died last spring after a lingering illness, leaving one child, a boy aged about seven years. Mr. Duclos was a member of Grey Oak Lodge of United Workmen, of this village in which his life was insured for $2,000. Messers. G.B. Best and A.M. Warden, officers of the Lodge, visited Ashland on receipt of the news of his death and returned with his body. Thursday afternoon funeral services were held and his remains consigned to the grave by the side of his wife. His son will be taken care of by the Lodge until communication can be had with his relatives.
The tug "Pacific" was purchased at Duluth last fall by Messrs. Herbert and Roberts, of this village. Shortly after bringing her to this port Roberts sold his interest to H.J. James, of Ashland, and this season she has been employed in towing rafts to the several mills at that point. The explosion resulted in damage to her upper works alone, her hull remaining uninjured, and the work of repairing her is now under way.

DUERR, FRIEDRICH ALBERT
OBITUARY
We are called upon to record the accidental drowning of one of the employees of the Bad River Lumbering and Improvement Company, which happened at the mill pond on Bad River in Jacobs last Sunday morning about 10 o'clock. He and a companion left the boarding house in the morning to go fishing, and visiting the river, went out upon the logs. One fell into the water and the person drowned managed to get him out safely, but in trying to reach the shore slipped from the logs himself and before his half strangled companion could do anything for him, sank and was drowned. The name of the deceased, was Friedrich Albert Duerr, formerly from Aaron, Switzerland.
