Paul LOVELAND has a farm west of Washburn with goats and sheep. (They used to have their sheep strip and clear the land. They even rented them out for lawn mowing, so to speak, type jobs when somebody wanted their land cleared of brush and things.) The city Baseball Team defeated Mason 13-9 behind the pitching of C. WESCOTT and WILLEY. On the WHS school board: Lorenzo N. Clausen, Q.W. FROST, Mrs. E.C. ALVORD, Charles PETERSON, J.N. KINNEY, Henry JOHNSON and Amt PEDERSON. An old Washburn pioneer, Ben MOODY, 75, passed away. Haley�s Comet was seen with the naked eye in the eastern sky. Work began on A.I. LIEN�s building. (Where the Small World Restaurant is today.) A few places in Washburn in 1910: A. I. LIEN�s , City Drug Store, SEGAL Bros. James A. SHERIDAN and D.M. Maxey Real Estate.

Washburn downs Drummond in baseball 18-9 behind the strong pitching of Dick SCAMFER and George MAGER. Jacie BURKE had four hits in the game. The W.F. STIFEL is the first coal boat in this season. (A sailor from the boat stole Terry WELTY�s airplane at the Washburn Airport. He took a 45-minute "joy ride." He broke the propeller blade on the plane. A proprietor from a local tavern called up Earl JOHNSON and told him of the theft. Yes, Washburn had an airport. It was right in back of Jimmy DIBBELL�s down by "Slab Town.") Sharon SCOTT celebrated her ninth birthday on May 21, and some in attendance were: Karen LEAFBLAD, Shirley TAST, Barb JOHNSON, Sandy HUDSON, Joyce JACOBSON, Judy MATTSON, Shirley RAARUP and Linda HANSON. USN Seaman William FOSS was on the USS Roanoke. Some Girl Scouts on a nature hike included: Gale WICKLUND, Phyllis DOUCETTE, Dixie SANGER, Mary Jane GRAGE, Joanne EMBERTSON, Joyce TAST, Marjorie THORESON, Evora HANDBERG, Nancy GARLAND and Barb SMITH.

Dr. Warren GALL graduated from UW-Madison in a class of 119 new physicians. It was the second-largest class ever graduate up to that time. (Warren and his folks lived where SIROINs live now. It was on the site of where the old Garfield School was. Warren was a pretty good athlete, especially in basketball and football.) A glacier in Antarctica was named after Thomas FROSTMAN, a research meteorologist in that cold and very dangerous region. Some of the people heading the 49th KP Feed were: Ronny BERGMAN, Ludwig TRANMAL, Ernie HOLMAN and Carl SWANSON. (This column is dedicated in memory of these dedicated KPers, Ronny, Lud, Ernie and Carl.) Diane HAUGEN of Luther College will work as an assistant at the Messiah Lutheran Church. Dave JOUPPI was bartending at the Handlebar. (This column is also dedicated in memory of my good friends John and Nona ANDERSON.)

Pictured during Memorial Day�s wreath-laying at the Woodland Cemetery were Vivian and Florence SWANSON. Barb LINTON will run for re-election in the Wisconsin State Assembly. WHS Class of 1990 officers: President Erick REICHERT, Vice President Josh BLAKELY, Treasurer Matt McQUEEN, Secretary Sara LEDIN. The class flower, rose; the class colors, burgundy and black; class song, "Friends." The speaker at the 1990 WHS graduation was Bob Olson, WHS class of 1962. Class advisers were Bruce RAPPS and Jeff CASEY. Honor students: Josh BLAKELY, Ray DICKERHOFF and Matt McQUEEN. Carol OLSON and Larry ZIENTY were recognized as Million Dollar Producers
