Warren Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arby Bailey of the Town of Tripp, was injured on Tuesday afternoon when a tree fell upon him. He was employed cutting pulp at the time of the accident. Warren, who is a graduate of Iron River High School, Class of 1941, was taken to his home right after the accident, and then brought to this city. After giving him first aid, Dr. Johnson advised that the young man be taken to a hospital and Howard Fuhrmann, Bayfield County Traffic Officer, took him over there about 7 o'clock in the evening.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. William von Ende of Ino, a daughter, Nov. 18, at Ashland General Hospital. Mother and baby are fine.

Mr. (sic) J.P. Hicks and daughter, Loretta, went down to Wheaton, Ill., last week, where Mrs. (sic) Hicks is visiting with the family of her brother-in-law, Frank Hicks. Loretta expects to remain there and is said to have found employment.

Mrs. William Fox and her son, Lloyd, who motored to California about a month ago to visit relatives and friends, returned home last night. George Fox, who has been employed in a cannery during the season, came back with them. George enjoys deer hunting too much to stay away when the season is open, especially when the work season is over.

Mrs. Minnie Diamon and Mrs. Perry Ball left Thursday for Sheboygan, where they attended the funeral of Mrs. Diamon's sister.

Auto traffic through Iron River, always plenty fast, seems more so now that the new pavement is in. Many citizens have been wondering if "blinker" warning lights at each approach to town would help some in slowing down the motorists while passing through the village. The great trouble seems to be that the motorists who travel 65 to 70 miles an hour outside the towns think they are really crawling along when they reduce their speed to 45 or 50 mils an hour -- and that is dangerously fast in town! (Shades of 1999!)

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stillwell and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. James Mellom and son came up from Milwaukee yesterday to visit relatives and friends. The menfolk intend to do a little deer hunting, and we suspect they had that intention in the back of their heads all the time.

Mrs. Louise Johnson, daughter of Mrs. Lillian Johnson of Waino, was married to Mr. Clarence Heikkila, son of Mrs. Lillian Heikkila of Oulu on Nov. 7 in Duluth. Mrs. Heikkila is a teacher at the Corner School in Maple, and Mr. Heikkila is employed in Duluth. The couple will make their home in Waino.

An open house will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Denman on their 30th wedding anniversary. It will be held at their home Nov. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mitchell of Iron River are parents of a son, LeRoy John, born Friday, Nov. 13.

Dennis Lavin celebrated his third birthday Nov. 7. On Sunday, he helped his uncle, Donovan Lavin, celebrate his birthday; and Wednesday he helped his daddy, Larry Lavin, celebrate his.

A supper and celebration for relatives and friends honoring the birthday of Mrs. Charles Diamon Sr. was held at the home of Charles Diamon Jr. Monday evening.

Mrs. Emmett Biss of Mason and Mrs. Ann Ziemer of Tripp visited with Mrs. Mary Slancik on Thursday. They were both teachers at the Butler School as young ladies, which was near the Slancik farm. Both are dear friends of the Slancik family.

James D. Grummett, son of the Earl Grummets of Delta, is serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway operating with the U.S. 7th Fleet in the western Pacific. The Midway is scheduled to visit Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Granlund will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with open house at the Oulu School Nov. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Money isn't everything so long as you don't wind up so poor that you have nothing to eat but those words.

The Iron River Wolverine basketball team this year consists of Roger Anderson, Bob Pohjonen, Terry LaCrosse, Joe Moran, Jim Reinke, Bob Armbruster, Jerry Thompson and David Darwin.
