Alfred Weyandt, aged 46 years, and a resident of Brule for 37 years,
died last Friday, Nov. 7th, at his home. He had not been well for
more than two months, and was under a doctor's care most of that time.
He was injured while driving a truck on a highway job, and that
incapacitated him, but that injury may or may not have had anything to
do with his death. He served his country in the World War as a member
of Company 1 (sic) of Superior, and many of his former "buddies"
attended his funeral and provided military honors at the grave. Interment
was in the family lot at the Iron River Cemetery, following services at
the Brule Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. A.E. Westenberg of
Superior, and the funeral was one of the largest ever held in Brule.
Besides his sorrowing widow, Al is survived by one daughter, his aged
mother, Mrs. Anna Mae Weyandt, three brothers, Rollo B., Steve and
Max, and two sisters, Gladys and Ora, all of Brule
Mrs. J.C. Taylor has consented to direct the Red Cross
membership drive in Iron River and has appointed the following women
to assist her: Rose Peterson, Myrtle Frasa, Helen Hicks, Florence
Buran, Ruth Johnson, Eleta Fuhrmann, Katie Mellon, Iline Blomgren,
Verna Thompson, Lorraine Armagost, Mary Vojacek, Berdine Hanson
and Myrtle Coats.
William G,. "Bud" Armbruster left yesterday for Ashland, where
he joined a contingent of 10 Bayfield County boys who were inducted
into military service. The boys go to Eau Claire for their second physical
examination, and if they pass will go on to Ft. Sheridan, to be later
transferred to training camp.
Reginald Tharp and Maynard Clark, who were stationed at a
training camp in North Carolina, arrived home a few days ago.
Reginald, being over 28 years old, has been placed on the reserve list, and
will not go back into service unless called back, but Maynard will return at
the end of his furlough.
John Kucera, who is in the aviation division of the Army, and his cousin,
Leonard Vavra, who is in the Army, and both on furlough, came up to Iron
River early last week with a friend, Jerry Kech. They visited with the
Vachas, Bousleys and other relatives before returning to duty.
