Clifford Bimberg, aged 23 years, the young man who fell off the NP Railway
bridge which spans the Iron River last Wednesday and suffered a brain
concussion as a result, passed away at St. Marys Hospital in Superior. The
young man was from Floodwood, Minn., and had gone to work for the first time
with that bridge crew but a few hours before he met with the accident which
cost him his life.
Born: To Mr. and Mrs. Emery Morey, of this city, a daughter, Oct. 1, at St.

At an early hour Monday morning, the DSS and A Railway bridge
over the Sault St. Marie canal and locks crashed when a freight train,
undertaking to pass over it, reached the lift structure, precipitating the
engine and tender into the water, as well as the structure itself. Realizing
that this bridge was vital for national defense, the bridge was under
constant guard against sabotage, and the possibility that it was destroyed
by fifth columnists has not been dismissed by Uncle Sam and the crash is
being investigated. Fifty freighters are held up at the locks until repairs
are made.
The accident took the life of David Monroe, conductor, and H.J. Willis,
engineer.
At a 9 a.m. nuptial Mass this morning in St. James Catholic Church in
Duluth, Miss Crystal Mary Gottbreht became the bride of Peter James Savage
Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Savage of Iron River. The Rev. Father Phillip
Kiley officiated.
