I wonder when my grandfather, ARTHUR STONE, moved to Ashland. He lived there by the late 1940's amd married Marie Semanko. He may have moved from Eau Claire as early as 1930. Could you please check the city directory for when his name appears? Thank you.

Looking to see if there are still any Keipers in the Ashland area yet, or anyone else researching this surname. Andrew was born in Pennsylvania, parents names were Henry Keiper, and Susanna (Hawk). Andrew was born in 1834 August 7th. I was told he served in the Civil war, but don't know what state he enlisted from. He married a Mary from Wisc, the census record from Minnesota 1880 shows her and her daughter Rena as being born there. Her last name is unknown at this time. Any help from anyone researching this name is appreciated. Thanks

This might help you in your search. In Volume I of "A Journey into Mellen - Centennial 1896 to 1986" (page 486) there is a picture of the Atcherson Hotel which later became the Zaugg Nursing Home. The nursing home closed in 1976 but there might be records at the Mellen Historical Society. Also for cemetery records you might contact the Novitzke Funeral Home at 220 Hillcrest, Mellen, WI. There are two volumes on the history of Mellen and are full of family histories and the history of the town. Good luck. Pat Shanks

They settled in Mellen and had five more children: Alice, Elizabeth, John, Henry and Marguerite. Mr. Polencheck worked for the Foster Latimer Co. for many years. In 1932 he purchased the John Dunn homestead and farmed there until he retired at the age of 75. They both lived into their late eighties. Hope this helps you. Pat Shanks

I'm tracing/looking for info. on my ancestors who I believe came to Wisconsin from Buffalo, NY. I think Jan and Katarzyna Schultz lived in Buffalo around 1880's and then moved to Ashland, WI. My best guess is that they moved there around mid 1880's--1890. I believe Jan died in Ashland in 1917. To the best of my knowledge their children were Walenty, Rosalia, Antoni, Margaret, Victoria, Bernard and Peter. If you have any info. to verify this, please let me know.

I am looking for information on my Great Grandparents Peter LESTER aka Pierre LADOUCEUR the 3rd, and Abigail HASKINS. Pierre/Peter was b. Belle River, Ontario, Canada in about 1867 and Abigail was b. in WI. in about 1887. They lived in Bayfield, LaPointe, WI. - Madeline Island, which is where my Grandmother Josephine LESTER, was born in 1918. Abigail's parents were Henry HASKINS (from Ohio) and Phoebe RUSSELL (from WI.) The RUSSELL family was originally from Kent County, England. Peter LESTER was a French fur trader and camp cook on The Madeline Island. Henry HASKINS received land from a Chippewa Indian Treaty, so we are assuming he was a Chippewa/Obijaway Indian from The Bad River Band of Chippewa Indians. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
