Looking to see if there are still any Keipers in the Ashland area yet, or anyone else researching this surname. Andrew was born in Pennsylvania, parents names were Henry Keiper, and Susanna (Hawk). Andrew was born in 1834 August 7th. I was told he served in the Civil war, but don't know what state he enlisted from. He married a Mary from Wisc, the census record from Minnesota 1880 shows her and her daughter Rena as being born there. Her last name is unknown at this time. Any help from anyone researching this name is appreciated. Thanks

This might help you in your search. In Volume I of "A Journey into Mellen - Centennial 1896 to 1986" (page 486) there is a picture of the Atcherson Hotel which later became the Zaugg Nursing Home. The nursing home closed in 1976 but there might be records at the Mellen Historical Society. Also for cemetery records you might contact the Novitzke Funeral Home at 220 Hillcrest, Mellen, WI. There are two volumes on the history of Mellen and are full of family histories and the history of the town. Good luck. Pat Shanks

I'm tracing/looking for info. on my ancestors who I believe came to Wisconsin from Buffalo, NY. I think Jan and Katarzyna Schultz lived in Buffalo around 1880's and then moved to Ashland, WI. My best guess is that they moved there around mid 1880's--1890. I believe Jan died in Ashland in 1917. To the best of my knowledge their children were Walenty, Rosalia, Antoni, Margaret, Victoria, Bernard and Peter. If you have any info. to verify this, please let me know.

Belle River, Ontario, Canada in about 1867 and Abigail was b. in WI. in about 1887. PLATTS. In 1897 Abel's son Frederick Lynn PLATTS and his wife Mary Etta HARRISON lived in WI and had a daughter born there in 1898. The family was there only a few years before they moved to Mississippi. Susan PLATTS died there (MS) in 1907. Any information would be greatly appreciated or addresses on where I might find some of this information (birth of Jennie, death of Abel). Thanks.

I am looking for a township called Knight -- it was where my great-grandfather was living in 1890 in Ashland County, but I can't find it on a map now. Did such a place disappear or change names? I appreciate any help in this matter. Posted 2 Jan 1998.
