GEORGE "RED" MOSELER DIES AT WISCONSIN RAPIDS
George "Red" Moseler, a former resident of this village, and whose sister, Mrs. Marie Kunsch lives here, died today at a Wisconsin Rapids hospital following a lengthy illness.
The deceased was born at Winchester, Wis., February 25, 1911, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Moseler.
At an early age he moved with the family to Mellen, where he attended the public schools, and spent his childhood, being active in local baseball. "Red" Moseler was identified with baseball in this section for a number of years.
He was married here to Miss Gertrude Bucheger on June 19, 1935, at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, and after a short residence here lived at Mellen, Wis. and Ontonagon, Mich, and about ten years ago moved to Wisconsin Rapids.
After making their home in Mellen for some time, the family moved to Ontonagon, Michigan where he was employed for seven years by the Lake Superior Lumber Corp. They then resided in Glidden for some time where he was an enthusiastic member of the Glidden baseball club.
The past twelve years were spent at Wisconsin Rapids, where he was custodian of Assumption High School.
Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Joanne, who is a member of the staff of the Wisconsin Rapids school faculty; Patricia, with the Consolidated Paper Company at Wisconsin Rapids; Gerry a 1958 graduate of Assumption High School, and three younger children, Johnny, Ellen and Teresa. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Harrison Appleby, Pennsauken, New Jersey, a brother, Robert, Ontonagon and four sisters, Lois Dupie and Dorothy Miller also of Ontonagon; Marie Kunsch, Glidden and Julia Wilkinson of Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Margaret, and brother, John.
Pallbearers were his wife's six brothers, Henry, Edward, Leo, Paul, Bernard and Robert Bucheger.
Note: George Moseler's funeral mass was held at St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wood County, Wisconsin on July 26, 1958. He was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.

Funeral services were held at the Holy Family Catholic Church (Ontonagon,
Mich.) in this village last Thursday morning, Rev. Owen J. Bennet officiating.
The remains were taken to Mellen for burial.
Mr. and Mrs. Moseler were married on May 21, 1907 at Hurley, Wisconsin. They
made their home at Two Rivers the first year, then moved to Mercer where they
lived for five years and then moved to Mellen where Mr. Moseler was employed
by the F. Latimer Company until 1935 when the came to Ontonagon where, Mr.
Moseler was, until October this year employed by the Lake Superior Lumber
Corporation.
He is survived by six children and his widow. The children are Julia, Marie,
George, Dorothy, Robert and Lois, also 14 grandchildren. One son, John was
killed in action in 1944 and a daughter, Margaret died in 1925.
Those who attended the funeral from out of town were his sister, Mrs. Mary
Cordts and nephew, Clarence Jerabek of Two Rivers, Mrs. R. Mc Glinn,
Winchester, Wisl, Mrs. Oscar Waits, Milwaukee, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Clair
Duranso, Hurley, Wis., Earl Duranso, Winchester, Wis., Mrs. Leo Bucheger and
Paul Bucheger of Glidden, Wis. Note: Louis was born on January 19, 1876 at
Two Rivers, Wis., the son of the late Caroline Albrecht and John Moseler who
settled in Two Rivers, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin around 1858.

Adolph A. Olafson, 90, PARK FALLS � Adolph A. Olafson, age 90, of Park Falls, died Monday February 9, 2004 at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. He was born on January 2, 1914 in Park Falls, the son of John and Eleanor (Scharper) Olafson. On January 18, 1941 he married Verna Traxel in Butternut. Adolph was a self-employed logger. His greatest loves were his family, hunting, fishing, and his cabin. He is survived by two sons: Gene (Diane) Olafson of Sheboygan Falls, Larry (Kathy) Olafson of Park Falls; a daughter, Donna (Robert) Mader of Park Falls; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters: June (Charles) Miesbauer of Butternut and Ruby Miller of Butternut; two brothers: Chet (Joyce) Behreandt of Birnamwood and Leroy (Sharon) Behreandt of Antigo; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Verna in 2001, his sister Lenore Langsdorf, and his brother Ed Smith. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. from Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls. Rev. John Wilman will officiate. Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service at the church. The Novitzke Funeral Home in Park Falls is handling the arrangements.

LANESBORO LEADER (1959)
Mrs. Oscar Olafson, 69, died Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse.
The former Charlotte Johnson, she was born Whalan October 4, 1890 and was a lifelong resident of Fillmore Co.. She was married in June 1914, and the Olafsons farmed in the Whalan area a number of years. Mr. Olafson died previously.
She is survived by a son, John, St Paul, and four daughters, Mrs. Orlando Myhre and Mrs. Orval Wiste, La Crosse; Mrs. Clarence Storlie and Mrs. Frank Shulka, Prairie du Chein, Wi; three sisters, Mrs. Thorvald Lindglein and Mrs. William Rexford, Lanesboro; and Mrs. Alfred Peterson, Harmony; two brothers, Martin and Arthur Johnson, Whalan; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2pm at the Highland Lutheran church with Rev. S. T. Severtson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Death of John Olafson Yesterday
John Olafson, 63 years old, died at a local hospital yesterday after a short illness. He has been a widower for a number of years and leaves seven children to mourn his loss, of whom Hans Olafson of this city is the oldest. Mr. Olafson was born in Norway, and has lived in this part of the country for over thirty years. The last few years he has been employed as a section foreman for the Stearns Lumber company at Weir's Camp near Odanah.
The funeral will take place tomorrow at 12:30 from Sellie's Undertaking Parlors, the Rev Lund of Nidaros church having charge of the religious services. Internment in Mount Hope cemetery.
Death Case Cleared Up
Cuts and Bruises Not Responsible For Death of John Olafson, Inquest on Body Shows.
An inquest was held this morning by Coroner Sollie at the City Hall, on the circumstances attending the death of John Olafson, who died several days ago at the Ashland General hospital, after taking ill at the rooming house of Dan Modin. The inquest was held at the request of his son, Hans Olafson, who asked investigation of the cuts and bruises on the body of his father. After hearing the witnesses, the verdict was given that his death was caused by summer complaint and delirium tremens.
It was brought out by the witnesses that Olafson was ill when he came to Ashland, several weeks ago, from Odanah, where he had been employed, and that the cuts and bruises on his body were caused by falls. The witnesses who testified were Robert McGennet, Dan Modin, Axel Ekholm, Henry Jospehson, Gilbert Monsos, Dr. Wenzel, and Miss Aird, a nurse at the hospital.
A jury was impaneled to hear the evidence, the following acting upon it: E.S. Cook, A. F. Penn, James O'Brien, Martin Schrank, Jr. Tony Lodle, Jacob Kittenger.

Auto Plunges Into Basement
Shortly after one o'clock last Saturday Morning a Ford car driven by Oscar Scharper, plunged into the open basement at the Hoefferle Corner on the eastern outskirts of this city, resulting in fatal injuries to Mr. John Olafson, and more or less serious injuries to five other occupants of the car.
The party was returning home from a dance when at the Hoefferle corner the driver evidently misjudged to turn and drove straight into the open basement. The auto turned a complete summersault, landing upside down on the cement floor and pinning the occupants underneath, Oscar Schaper, Miss Elsie Zimmerman and Miss Nutting who occupied the front seat of the auto escaped serious injuries and managed to extricate themselves from the wreckage after which they proceeded to rescue the others from underneath the overturned car. In the meantime other cars had arrived at the scene and the victims of the accident were rushed to the Park Falls Hospital where it was the Mr. Olafsons skull had been badly crushed, Mrs. Olafson had sustained a broken collar bone and Miss Meda Sharper suffered a torn ear and other minor injuries. Mr. Olafson passed away about nine o'clock Saturday morning without having regained consciousness. John Olafson was born at Ashland on Nov 8th, 1890. He was married to Miss Eleanor Sharper of Park Falls in 1913 and since that time had made their home in this city. He is survived by his widow and two children age 7 and 4 years living in this city, one brother and one sister at Ashland. To them the heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended in their sad bereavement.
The Funeral was held from Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, Nov 8th, which would have been Mr. Olafson's thirty-first birthday, Rev C.E. Schneider conducted the services and the remains were laid to rest in Nola Cemetery. The large number of friends who turned out to pay their last tribute to his memory testified to the esteem in which Mr. Olafson was held in this community.

Melvin Olafson Services
Melvin Olafson, 74, of La Crescent died Thursday, March 26, enroute to a La Crosse hospital.
Services were Saturday at the Potter-Haugen Funeral Home in Caledonia. The Rev. K. Roger Johnson officiated, and burial was in Evergreen Cemetary.
He was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Olafson May 18, 1895, in Ashland, Wis., and married Johanna Bjergum Dec. 4, 1915. He farmed in the Hokah and Caledonia areas.
Surviving are his widow; three sons, Vernal of La crescent, Mervin of Caledonia and Norton of St. Paul; four daughters, Mrs. Odin Peterson of St. Paul, Mrs. Songer and Mrs. Ray Rask of La Crescent, and Mrs. Philander Onsgard of Caledonia; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Betsy Holmen of Ashland and Mrs. Melvin Skadsen of Spring Grove; and one brother, Theodore, living in Alaska.

Oscar Olafson was born July 20. 1884 in Ashland, Wis., the son of John and Marie Olafson. He died March 20, 1942 at the age of 57 years and 8 months after a lingering illness.
Mr. Olafson was united in marriage to Lottie (Charlotte) Johnson of Whalan on June 6, 1914. He made his home in the vicinity of Spring Grove until 1938 when he moved to Preble Twp where he has been engaged in farming the last tour years.
He is survived by his wife, 5 children, Margaret, Mrs. Orlando Myhre of Caledonia, Olga, Mrs. Clarence Sterile of Chaseburg, Wis., Edna of LaCrosse, Wis., and John and Alice at home and 7 grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Melvin Skadson of Spring Grove, Mrs. Oscar Holman of Washburn and Mrs. Sigurd Nordvik of Minneapolis, three brothers, Melvin of Caledonia, Theodore of Spring Grove and Julius of Rochester, one son, Ellsworth, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 24 at 2 o'clock in the Highland Lutheran church with Rev. Ritland officiating. Interment was In the Highland cemetery. Pallbearers were Martin Johnson, William Rexford, Alfred Peterson, Thorvold Lindglein, Carl Dammen and Art Johnson.

Ted Olafson, died June 20, 1993 in Spring Grove, MN. Article is from 1990 issue of Spring Grove Herald.
Theodore "Ted" Togo Olafson was born to Christine J. Skauge and John Olafson at Black Hammer Township on June 28, 1905.
His mother died when he was three years old. They lived in Ashland Junction, WI. She came to Grandma Skauge in rural Black Hammer when Ted, her fifth baby, was due to be born. His father worked at a camp at Odanah, WI for the railroad company.
His Mother again came to Grandma Skauge's when her seventh child was due. She and the child died in childbirth.
Ted lived with his Skauge grandparents until he was six years old, at which time he was sent to live with a farm family by the name of Andrew Shirven, 10 miles north of Mael. He lived with them until he was 16. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Schele Church while he stayed at the Shirvens.
At age 16 he left the Shirvens and went out to work for farmers a couple of years. He worked for Roverud Construction for a few years until he was drafted into the Army. He was stationed in Colorado in the Norwegian Ski Corps, was taken ill and was honorably discharged. Then he worked for Roverud again.
In 1951 he went to Anchorage, AK in Sept to look for work. He worked in Whittier, AK through the winter. In the spring he went to Kodiak Island and worked on construction there for some years. Then he bought a fishing boat that went down. He bought and remodeled a second fishing boat, and while out fishing halibut, crab, and prawns, a storm came up. His radio was not working at the time so he was not aware of the approaching storm. He and his crew were rescued by Coast Guard Helicopter.
He quit fishing and purchased some land at Bell Flats, Kodiak and bought a mobile home which he lived in until his health failed and he became a resident at a rest home in Kodiak in 1989.
He also made crab pots(traps) for his own use as well as for his fellow fishermen. He has always taken care of himself until recently.
He moved from Kodiak Nursing Home to Tweeten/Lutheran Health Care Center on July 29, 1990. He has one sister, Elida (Mrs. Melvin) Skadsem living in Spring Grove as well as many nephews and nieces.

Verna Olafson, , PARK FALLS � Verna Olafson, age 83, of Park Falls, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Butternut, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Brietenfeld) Traxel. Her early life and schooling were in Butternut. She married Adolph Olafson on Jan. 18, 1941, in Butternut. The couple later moved to Park Falls. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Adolph, of Park Falls; three children, Gene (Diane) Olafson of Sheboygan Falls; Larry (Kathy) Olafson and Donna (Bob ) Mader, both of Park Falls; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ellen Herbst, and one brother, Harland Traxel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls, with the Rev. Bryan Lundquist officiating. Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls. The Novitzke Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES AWAY
Death came to Mrs. Frank Peterhansel Sr., on Saturday, May 1, 1937 after an illness of four weeks. She suffered from a heart attack.
Mrs. Hermina Peterhansel came to this country from Germany in 1892. She was married the same year to Mr. Frank Peterhansel Sr. They settled two miles West of Glidden and she helped to make a farm out of virgin timber, on which she lived until the time of her death.
She was born in Bavatin on the 12th day of October, 1860 and she had reached the age of 76 years, 6 months and 19 days. She leaves to mourn her aged husband, and eight children, who are all married, except one daughter at home. They are: Theresa Bucheger, Mary Pankratz, Frank Peterhansel Jr., Julia Zach, Hannah Lucas, Catherine Peterhansel, all of Glidden and William Peterhansel in Scottdale, Penn., and Ella Hatfield of Glidden. One son preceded her in death in infancy. Besides she leaves to mourn one brother in Scottdale, Penn. and two brothers and two sisters in Bavaria. She also leaves 29 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a large number of friends. The funeral was held from the Catholic Church in Glidden on Wednesday forenoon. Father Gerhards officiated.

Arnold Scherwinski,77, Park Falls, died Friday at Flambeau Medical Center in Park Falls after a lingering illness. He was born September 18, 1906 in Butternut and had been a life-long resident. He married Ida Hoefferle April 23, 1932 in Butternut. He had been a purchasing agent for Roddis Lumber and the Weyerhauser Corp. He was also a former Park Falls Councilman. He is survived by his wife Ida, Park Falls; four sons, Ervin #Waukesha, Darrell, Plover, Lloyd, Tulsa, Okla., and Alvin, Plover; two daughters, Mrs. William (Darlene) Schofield, Rice Lake and Mrs. David (Delores) Senderhauf, Waukesha; 29 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl, Florida; and two sisters, Mrs. Paula Hagman, Park Falls and Mrs. Bertha Stage, Beloit. Visitation will be Sunday at the Novitzke, Funeral Home, Park Falls, after 3pm and Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Park Falls, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 am from the Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carlton Sielaff officiating. Burial will be in Nola Cemetery.

Ida E. Scherwinski, 84, of Park Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 1994, at Westmoreland Manor Nursing Home, Waukesha.
Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Peace Lutheran Church, Park Falls; Rev. Stanley Bahn officiating.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
She was born Jan 17, 1910, in Park Falls and was a life-long resident of Park Falls. Her parents were John and Rosa (Schaper) Hoefferle.
She married Arnold Scherwinski April 23, 1932, in Butternut.
A homemaker, she also worked at St. Croix Corp.
She was a member of the Peace Women of Peace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by four sons; Ervin (Ruth) of Waukesha, Darrell (Marian) of Plover, Lloyd (Reta) of Tulsa, OK, and Alvin (Cindy) of Plover; two daughters, Darlene (William) Schofield of Rice Lake, and Delores (David) Senderhauf of Waukesha; 29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cecelia Bidstup of Rockford, IL, Beatrice (Harvey) Helberg of Rockford; and three brothers, Rudolph Hoefferle and Leonard (Louise) Hoefferle, both of Park Falls and Arnold Hoefferle of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister; and four brothers.

Carl E. Scherwinsky, 77, of 3605 16th St, Vero Beach, died June 11, 1990, in Fort Pierce Care Center after a prolonged illness. He was born June 25, 1912, in Butternut, WI, and had moved to Vero Beach 10 years ago from Park Falls, WI. Mr. Scherwinsky was a farmer and a lumberjack for many years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, and for 60 years a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Butternut. Survivors include his wife, Iola Mae; one step-daughter Joyce Sheeler, Vero Beach, and one sister, Bertha Stage, Beloit, WI. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran church, Vero Beach with the Rev. Raymond C. Huddle officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 900 27th Ave, Vero Beach, FL, 32960.

Interment will be in the Nola Cemetary. Mr. Scherwinsky passed away at the Park Rest Home on Tuesday, Feb 8th, following a lingering illness. He was born Feb 24, 1878, at Ausprisine, Germany, and came to the US at the age of eight. On Dec 25, 1905, he was married to Martha Zimmerman in Butternut. They moved to the Park Falls area 20 years ago. Mr. Scherwinsky was engaged in farming. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Bertha) Stage, Sharon, WI, and Mrs. George (Paula) Hagmann of Park Falls; three sons, Arnold, Herman Jr., and Carl, all of Park Falls. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren.

Iola Mae Scherwinsky, 91, of Vero Beach, died Aug 15, 1999 at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Scherwinsky was born Nov 6, 1907 in Johnstown Center, WI. She lived in Park Falls, WI for 32 years, and moved to Vero Beach 19 years ago from West Point, IA. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church Women's Missionary League, AARP, and the Council on Aging, all in Vero Beach. Surviving Mrs. Scherwinsky are her daughter & son-in-law, Joy & Jim DeGrote of Vero Beach; sister Viola Halbrader of Willard, WI and many beloved nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert R. Cofer Sr. officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach, FL.

Surviving her death are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Bertha) Stage, Sharon, WI and Mrs. George (Paula) Hagmann of Park Falls; three sons, Arnold & Herman, both of Park Falls, and Carl of Wapello, IA; one brother Hugo Zimmerman of Marshfield. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren & 31 great grandchildren. A brother, three sisters, one daughter, & her husband preceded her in death.

MRS. LEONARD SHANKS SR. PASSES AWAY ON JUNE 27, 1955
Mrs. Leonard Shanks, age 75, passed away at the Iron River Convalescent Home
on Monday morning. She had been a patient there for about a year.
Mrs. Shanks was born in Parishville, New York (St. Lawrence Co.) on September
18, 1879. She was united in marriage to Leonard Shanks at Mellen, Wis, on
Nov. 23, 1901 and they resided in Mellen until September of 1935 when they
moved to Ontonagon. She was a member of the W.S.C.S. and a member of the
W.B.A.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Fern) Jones of Ontonagon and
three sons, Verne of Iron Mountain, Mich., Jack of Ontonagon and Leonard Jr.
of Waterford, Wis.
The body was brought to the Driscoll Funeral Home where her many friends
called to pay their respects.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Methodist Church
with the Rev. James P. McKeever officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
The casket bearers were Charles Hill, Jack Bailey, Earl Doyle, Ted Wallo,
Thomas Lockhart and Harold Elliott.
Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Verne
Shanks and two children of Iron Mountain, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Shanks and
four children of Waterford, Wis. See note below.

Franklin and Flavia (LaBar) Lashua of Parishville, St. Lawrence County, New
York who settled in Iola, Waupaca County, Wisconsin in 1883.

Leonard H. Shanks, 78 year old resident of Ontonagon, passed away at 11:30
Sunday morning, July 12 at the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital. He had been in
failing health since April and was hospitalized for the past 31 days.
He was born at Castlewood, South Dakota on October 28, 1880 and moved to
Greenwood, Clark County, Wisconsin with his parents as a boy. He attended the
schools there then went to Mellen, Wis. as a young man where he resided for
32 years. He was married there to Violetta Lashua on November 23, 1901.
A carpenter by trade, he was also an accomplished cabinet maker.
Mr. Shanks was a faithful member of the Methodist Church. He was also a
member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In his younger days he was an
accomplished cornet player, and while in Mellen he directed the City Band for
a number of years.
The Shanks family came to Ontonagon in 1934 and he was employed as a
millwright for the Gorman Lumber Company until his retirement. Mrs. Shanks
preceded him in death on June 27, 1955.
Surviving are three sons, Verne of Iron Mountain, Mich., Leonard of West
Allis, Wis., and Jack of Ontonagon; one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Fern) Jones of
Ontonagon; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His body was taken to the Driscoll Funeral Home where friends paid their
respects.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon from the Ontonagon
Methodist Church. The Rev. Ardo A. Carmitchel officiated and burial was
beside the body of his wife in the family lot of the Riverside Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Charles Hill, Earl Doyle, Thomas Lockart, Henry Huber,
William Schober and Morris Myren.
Out of town relatives here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Verne Shanks
and daughter, Sandy and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Shanks of Iron Mountain, Michigan;
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Shanks and family of West Allis, Wis.- Note from

Elida C. Skadsem Services Held at Faith Luth. Church, Black Hammer
Elida Cerine Skadsem, 91 of Spring Grove, MN died Monday, March 13, 1995, at Tweeten Lutheran Health Care Center, Spring Grove.
She was born April 15, 1903, in Ashland Junction, Wisconsin, to John and Christian (Skauge) Olafson. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Ashland, WI and confirmed in the first class of Lucky Mound Church in Plaza, ND.
Elida married Melvin R. Skadsem on Sept. 29, 1919, at Glendive, MT. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1973.
Elida received her education in the public schools in this area. She and her husband, Melvin farmed in Black Hammer Township all of their working lives.
She was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church, Black Hammer, and a former member and officer of Faith Lutheran Church's WELCA.
She is survived by three sons, Rueben (Evelyn) of Anchorage, AK, Eldor and Willis, both of Spring Grove; two daughters, Jarla (Earl) Enstrom of Caledonia, and Wanda (Dennis) Knutson of Rushford, MN; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Melvin, she was preceded in death by four sons, Myron, Melvin Jr., Terry, and Dean; one daughter, Eileen; four grandsons, Darryl, Kevin, Donneleigh, and James.
Services were held at 10:30am Wednesday, March 15, at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor William Horn officiated.
Visitation was Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 to the time of Service.

Verna Ina Steiner, age 79, of Neenah, formerly of Park Falls, passed away March 13, 2001, at her home.
Verna was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Glidden. The daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Schultz) Wartgow, she spent her early life and schooling in Butternut, and graduated from Butternut High School in 1939. She later moved to Milwaukee and worked at AO Smith and Northwestern Bell Company as an operator. She returned to Butternut and married W.M. Steiner on Oct. 24, 1945. They were married for 15 years, had four children, and later divorced. Verna also worked for Flambeau Paper Company until her retirement.
Surviving Verna are two sons, Robert W. (Mary) Steiner, granddaughter, Nancy, and grandson, Joseph, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Jerald A. Steiner of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and daughter-in-law, Pat, and three granddaughters, Kimberly, Jennifer, and Elizabeth of Crystal, Minn.; two daughters, Janis L. (Edward) Schmidt of Neenah, two grandsons, Joshua (Jennifer) of Appleton, and Isaac of Oshkosh; and a faithful daughter, Lori Lyn, at home in Neenah, and a great-granddaughter, Eva Antoinette Schmidt, the daughter of Joshua and Jennifer.
She is also survived by three brothers, Eugene A. (Grace) Wartgow of Green Valley, Ariz., Robert H. (Betty) Wartgow of Hanson, Idaho, and Kenneth C. (Danette) Rominske of W. Chicago, Ill. Also a sister-in-law, Jean of Minneapolis, Minn. Further survived by many nieces and nephews from Wisconsin, Idaha, Minnesota, and California.
Preceding Verna in death were her parents, Art and Lydia, a stepfather, Carl Rominski, and two sisters, Ardith (Wartgow) Rominski and Dorothy (Wartgow) Miller. W.M. Steiner also preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul�s Lutheran Church in Butternut. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Butternut. Sec 12, Lot1.
The Valley Funeral Home in Appleton is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Anna A. Traxel
Anna A. Traxel, 76, Park Falls, passed away at the Ashland Community Hospital on Tuesday of last week following a lingering illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Traxel were held on Friday at 2 pm from Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Norman Spomer officiating. Internment was made at Nola Cemetery. The remains lay in state at the Novitzke Funeral Home after 3 pm Thursday until removal to the church on Friday to lie in state from noon until the hour of services.
Anna Breitenfeld was born July 13, 1895 at Butternut where she spent her early life.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Adolph (Verna) Olafson of Park Falls; one son, Harlin Traxel of Chicago; four brothers: Gust Breitenfeld of Ashland, Albert Breitenfeld of Milwaukee, and Ray and August Breitenfeld, both of Butternut; two sisters: Mrs. Leona Drott and Mrs. Russell Peterson, both of Butternut. Also surviving are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One daughter, Ellen Herbst, preceded her in death.

Lynn H. Wartgow, 83, Lynn Herman Wartgow, age 83, a lifelong resident of Butternut, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. Lynn was born March 11, 1920 in Butternut, the son of Herman A. and Elsie (Linsmeyer) Wartgow. He was a U.S. Army, W.W. II veteran serving in the European Theater. On Dec. 21, 1940 he was united in marriage to Florine M. Schuler at Butternut. He was a mechanic, logger and a rural mail carrier for the postal service for over 25 years. He will be remembered for his helpfulness, wave, optimism and love of life. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Florine of Butternut; two daughters: Jane (Rodney) Bush of Nekoosa, and JoAnn (Jim) Bosse of Eau Claire; one son, John (Cathy) of Cottage Grove, Minn.; two brothers, Dean (Marilyn) Wartgow and Herman (Gladys) Wartgow, all of Butternut; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Romanowich of Franklin; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two nephews and one brother-in-law. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Butternut with Reverend John A. Deitz officiating. Interment will take place in Butternut Union Cemetery, Butternut, with military honors accorded by the Butternut American Legion Post No. 272. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today and continue until the hour of service at the church in Butternut. The Mountain Funeral Home, Ashland and Mellen, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Norman Wehrman, , BUTTERNUT -- Norman L. Wehrman, 73, of Butternut, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. He was born on Jan. 9, 1927, in Park Falls, the son of Gustav and Bernice (Smith) Wehrman. His early life and schooling were in Park Falls. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. On May 22, 1948, he married Elaine Breitenfeld in Butternut. Mr. Wehrman worked for the railroad for 18 years, then worked for the Flambeau Paper Mill for 23 years until his retirement, and then worked in construction for Palacek Bulldozing. He was a member of the Park Falls VFW Post. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, Butternut; six daughters, Sandra (George) Kozak, Phillips; Pamela (Richard) Koenig, Park Falls; Debra Kelly, Chippewa Falls; Linda (Steve) Daoust, Long Prairie, Minn.; Brenda (Louis III) Kotora, Fifield; and Renee (Danny) Kundinger, Phillips; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Wehrman; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Curtis; sister-in-law, Marie; and son-in-law, John. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butternut. The Rev. John A. Dietz will officiate. Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls, with military rites under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion and VFW posts.

Charles H. Western was born in Wayne County, Ohio, August 4,1832, and
died in Ashland, Wis., Aug. 30, 1903, aged 71 years and 26 days.
He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Whysong, in Angola, Dec. 1888,and lived in Hudson, Ind., until about four years ago they moved to Lake Gogebic, Ontonagon County, Mich., where they resided until his death. He leaves a wife and one son to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. He was a member of the 74th Indiana Regiment in the late Rebellion, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Hudson. He died in the hospital at Ashland, Wis., and the remains were brought to Hudson, and buried in Circle Cemetery, Sept. 2, 1903, by the Masonic Lodge, Rev. McBride officiating.
