John Bach apparently went to Wisconsin about 1872, approximately the same time his
brothers left Allegheny City for Alliance. Several men of German descent from
Cedarburg pioneered in Butternut in 1877, convincing many of their old neighbors to join
them, and the Bachs may have been among them.
John was working as a carpenter in Butternut, Wisconsin, by 1880. In 1900, he was
living with his daughter and son-in-law in Butternut, and working as a day-laborer. In
1905, he was in his own household, and called himself a farmer. In 1910, still living by
himself, he mentioned he owned his own farm.
The Buchs had come to the U.S. and settled in Cedarburg by 1860.

According to the compiled cemetery inscriptions from Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, her
tombstone reads: G. Augusta E. Bach, 1 Jan. 1856�1 Apr. 1897. At least her name is inscribed on the
Buch family monument there. It would seem odd that she would have been buried in Cedarburg, since she
had not lived there since she married, though there must have been continuing ties, because her daughter
was married there the year before Karoline's death. Oddly enough, there is a John Bach bur. in the
Cedarburg Cemetery, b. 1829 d. 1898, but he is not our John, and no other family member of Adam's
generation is known. John Bach of Cedarburg was a Prussian, according to the 1860 U.S. census of
Cedarburg, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin, #662/676.
