Crowley Murder of 1925 Contributed by:Penny Boszor Source: Toledo Blade (Toledo, OH) dated Sunday, November 8, 1925. Ashland, Wisc., Nov 7 - (AP) - John Crowley today directed the unavailing search for the body of his 26-year-old Indian wife whom he killed and sunk in a lake a week ago after an altercation. Heavy seas and thick ice confronted the dredgers today and search will be resumed Monday. Crowley shot his wife last Saturday night and took the body 1.200 feet from the shore in a rowboat, weighted it and sunk it. an hour later, in a frenzy he said, he tried to recover the body. Then he fled to Michigan. Returning yesterday, he surrendered.
