DeGeorge School was a small two room school house built by James DeGeorge for the community in Colburn Township. It was located on Highway G. One room was for students in first through fourth grades and the other was for fifth through eighth grades. There was a plaque at the flag pole in front of the school. The plaque read: "Dedicated by James DeGeorge to the memory of my son, Dominick DeGeorge, 22, who died September 13, 1952". The building burned in the 1977-78 school year and the students were bussed to Lincoln School. The school was never rebuilt.
This is a series of comments by different individuals about the school. If anyone has any further information, please share.

| Mona Wheeler | I am curious. I want to see who remembers when DeGeorge Grade School was burnt to the ground .. I was in 1st grade - we all were transferred to Lincoln Grade School. We combined our classes and had a huge trailer-house put next to the school. Raquel Rodriguez Curt Kirsenlohr Dean Burrows --- we all were in kindergarten - High School graduation together! | |
| Kathy Hanson Keach | I remember DeGeorge School!! Me and my 2 older sisters went there in the early 70's until we moved. I remember hearing about the fire though! | |
| Chanin Wormet Allen | I went there for just a little bit in the 3rd grade I believe . Although since I'm old now, I am probably completely wrong. | |
| Jerry Cardo | I graduated 8th grade from DeGeorge school, later my kids went there, till it burned. | |
| Sandra Cardo Gorsuch | My dad graduated 8th grade there and I graduated 8th grade there. It burned down when I was a freshman at A-F, so we were the last class to come through all 8 grades there. High school class of 81. Besides me, our 8th grade class was, Kim Chilewski (Chanin's aunt), Charlene Tomschin, Tom Narel, Forrest Ellsworth, David Lueck (R.I.P.), Matt Schmitt, and Joe Graf. I just saw Kim and Charlene for the first time in ages at our 30th class reunion this summer. DeGeorge School. Just like Lincoln, 1-4 in one room, 5-8 in the other. After it burned down in 1977 or 78, they never rebuilt and combined DeGeorge and Lincoln. I was in the last class to graduate 8th grade from DeGeorge School. |
