Martin VanBeek, age 101, a resident of Villa Pines Nursing Care Center, Friendship, died at the Center Wednesday, Oct 20.
Martin was born Aug 19, 1881 at Hoag Soeren, Holland, a son of Gerrit and Gerritze VanBeek. He came to Wisconsin March 3, 1908 and has been a resident of Adams County since 1945.
He was married to Wilhemina B Witt at Montello, Wisconsin Oct 17, 1912. She died June 22, 1967.
Martin was a farmer and an artist. For several years he and his family made the painted wood plaques that were sold through the Schultz Brothers five and ten cent stores. Many of the scenes were of Wisconsin Dells
He is survived by a son, Gerrit of Grand Marsh and a daughter Pauline Richardt of Reesville, WI; 9 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Interment was in the White Creek Cemetery.
Funeral services for Mr VanBeek were held at Roseberry Funeral Home in Friendship, Saturday, Oct 23 at 2:30 pm with the Rev Glenn A Dunn officiating. Charles Nichols sang two songs.
The ladies of the Grand Marsh Church furnished the family and friends with a lunch following the services at the graveside.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

FRIENDSHIP -- Mr Martin VanBeek, age 101, died Wednesday, October 20, 1982 at Villa Pines Nursing Ceneter in Friendship. He is survived by a son, Garrit BanBeek of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin; a daughter, Pauline Richardt of Reesville, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Service will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 2:30pm at ROSEBERRY's FUNERAL HOME in Friendship. Burial will be at White Creek Cemetery in Easton Township, Adams County. Visitation will be Friday, October 22 from 4:00-9:00pm at the Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship.
