Frank E York, oldest son of Oliver M and Lydia York, was born at Honey Creek, Walworth County, Wis, November 17, 1850, and passed away after a two weeks illness at his farm home at Monroe Center, Adams County, at 5:30 Sunday afternoon, March 17 at the advanced age of 89 years and 4 months.
When he was about three years of age his parents moved to a farm in the Town of Easton, Adams County, where he grew to manhood and where, on July 7, 1872 he was married to Mary E Colby. About two years after their marriage they moved to the town of Rome, where he was employed in the saw mill up to the time it was destroyed by fire. He then purchased a farm which he operated until the year 1897 when he purchased another farm in the town of Monroe and where he moved his family, later disposing of his Barnum property.
Mr York was always interested in Town affairs and until the later years always took an active part, serving his respective towns as clerk, chairman, treasurer and assessor. He was an honest upright citizen and administered successfully each office until his advancing age made it impossible for him to accept work of that kind.
To Mr and Mrs York six sons were born, Urban H, Herbert P, and Raymond G, all of whom are deceased; Jonathan M of Plains, Montana, Archie H of Monroe Center and Francis L whose address is unknown.
His wife passed away on July 26, 1919. Later he was married to Addie L York, who with the last three named sons survives him. He is also survived by one brother, Robert N York of Friendship; and 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Sympathy is extended to the two sons, Archie and John by the many friends of the family. A good many will miss this kindly old man, "Uncle Frank" as he was called by the younger generation.
Funeral services were held at the Monroe Center church at 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon, March 19, Rev C A O'Neill of Nekoosa officiating and burial was in the family lot in the Spring Creek cemetery.
