Dana Henry Elderkin passed away Monday, February 8, at the home of his foster parents, Mr and Mrs Thos Day of Easton, aged 9 years, 7 months and 22 days. The cause of death was scarlet fever.
Because of the nature of the disease there could be no public funeral and burial was made Tuesday, February 9, with only a brief service at the grave in the Easton cemetery, in which Rev J W Davies of Wisconsin Dells officiated.
Dana Henry Elderkin, youngest son of Merrick and Marrilla Elderkin, was born at the Portage hospital, Jun 15, 1927. Buddy's mother passed away at the time of his birth, and he was taken at the age of two weeks by his aunt, Mrs Thomas Day, who with rare love and devotion had filled that sacred place of mother and lovingly cared for him until the Master called him home.
"Buddy". as he was generally called, was a bright, cheerful lad and an attendant at the East Easton school, in which he had a perfect attendance record and was highly regarded by his teachers and schoolmates.
Buddy leaves to mourn his death his father, Merrick Elderkin, one brother, Leland, and two sisters, Lovinia and Henrietta; also his foster mother and father, Mr and Mrs Thos Day, and brothers as he always called them: Earl Day, Orville Day, Avery Elliott and Rudy Klundt; and three sisters, Elma Day, Evelyn Klundt and Viola Elliott, and a host of relatives and friends.
Buddy is not dead, Oh-No, But only gone away, From out this land of strife and woe To God's eternal Day. Buddy is not dead, dear one, But where death's never seen, his little life has just begun In pasture's ever green. Buddy is not dead, but waits, Beyond the crystal sea And lingers at the Pearly Gates, To welcome you and me.
