An obituary of Albert Greenwood whose death was reported in our last issue follows:
Albert Haynes Greenwood was born in Charleston, Massachusetts, April 8, 1855, the son of Leonard and Martha Elizabeth Greenwood, and died December 4, 1935 having attained the age of 78 years 7 months and 26 days.
At the age of six months he came to Quincy, Wisconsin with his parents, where he resided until 1904, when he, with his family, moved to White Creek.
He was united in marriage to Clara A Colby, June 27, 1888 and to this union were born four children--three sons and one daughter--Milton Co, Wilbur H, Daniel A and Mary L, the latter having died at the age of six years.
Besides his widow he is survived by three sons, one brother, ten grandchildren and a host of friends. "Allie" Greenwood as he was often called, taught when a young man, in the rural schools of our county, he also was cook in the lumber camps, going down the river on rafts of lumber with the men as cook, and a very efficient one too.
After his marriage he settled on a farm in the town of Quincy which he operated for a number of years, while there he held offices of trust in the town. Being rather slight of stature for the strenuous work of a farm, in 1904 he traded the farm for what was known as the George Bacon store in White Creek, where he conducted a general store. He was postmaster for some time, and conducted the office efficiently and courteously.
He never affilliated himself with any church denomination, but lived a Christian life, and was a regular attendant at public worship and a liberal supporter financially. He was always ready to help any worthy cause, the first to go where help was needed, ever ready to give a word of advise unobtrusively.
Four years ago his health began to fail, he gradually grew more feeble, all that loving hands could do was done. His devoted wife was a constant attendant at his bedside, but he gradually slipped away.
Funeral services were held at the home and at the church Wednesday, afternoon, December 6. Rev William Davies of Wisconsin conducted the service, Robert Roseberry was the directing undertaker. Interment was in the White Creek cemetery.
