Obituary

The death of Sam J. Swenson occurred on Saturday Jan. 18 at Mahnomen,

Minn. His death came as a shock to his friends and relatives.

Mr. Swenson was born July 19, 1861 at Tydal, Norway; and was the second

oldest of four children.

His parents were: John Ass Swenson and Anne Elizabeth Swenson. With them he emigrated to America in 1866, and settled near Lansing, Iowa.

In the year 1874 they moved to Lake Park, Minn. where they resided until

1878; they came to Flom Township in Norman County.

On March 14, 1892 he married Miss Josephine Emelia Skofstad, and then

moved to his homestead in Walworth Township, Becker Co. Mrs. Swenson

died April 1, 1921. The children that survives them are: Ernest, Flom;

Clarence, Ulen; Arthur, Gary; Sidney, Flom; Edith, Detroit Lakes; Orrin,

Chicago.

In March 1927, he married Mrs. Olydia Iverson. In June 1929 they moved

to Mahnomen, Minn., at which place he was living, when he passed away.

Besides his children and widow, he leaves to mourn his sudden death, his

aged father, and one brother, Ed Swenson, Flom; one sister, Mrs. Ed. R.

Syverson, St. Paul; and four grandchildren. His mother and brother Ole,

have passed on before him.

Funeral services took place on Thursday, January 23, at 12:30 at the

farm home in Walworth Township and at two o'clock at the Emmanuel

Lutheran Church, of which he was a member. Rev. B.L. Opdahl officiated

and the burial took place in the family lot.

He was carried to his last resting place by six of his former neighbors:

Rev. C.L. Jenson, Peter Ingebretson, Thomas Stende, Peter Sakersmoe,

And. Dorseth and Ole Thorson.

He leaves a wide circle of friends to mourn his departure. All of us will

remember him as a friend kindhearted and true, as one who considered

life seriously, and who was earnest in devotion to his God. Blessed be

his memory.
