Saugestad, Oluf A., legislator - Baldwin (Wis.,) - born 19 Jan., 1840, in Beitstaden, Trondhjem stift, Norway.  His father was a veterinary surgeon, and young Saugestad received a common school education, and graduated from a state veterinary college in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1864. For six years he practiced his profession in Fosen; then emigrated to America, coming directly to Lansing, Iowa, where he also practiced his professional for a couple of years.

Saugestad settled at his present place in 1872, where he started a drug store at once, which he kept for twenty years, besides acquiring real property in the neighborhood. From 1876 to 1882 he was town treasurer, and also held other positions of trust and honor, being elected supervisor of the village in 1895.  In 1881 he was elected state legislator on the Republican ticket, serving one term; and elected sheriff of St. Croix county in 1892.  He is a member of the Norwegian Synod; was married in 1870 to Karen Gravrok; they have one grown daughter.
