Bert Olson

Nelson, 1897. p. 432 Olson, Bert, merchant - Ashland (Wis.) - born 28 Sept., 1857, in Romsdal, Trondhjem, stift, Norway. From the age of eight to sixteen he herded cattle in the mountains, then learned the shoe-makers trade in Aalesund; emigrated in 1880, coming directly to Black River Falls, Wis., where he worked in the woods and saw mills for a couple of years. In 1882 he settled in Ashland, where he started a shoe store at once, which he has continued ever since. Olson was elected county supervisor in 1895 which, according to the charter of Ashland, makes him also a member of the city council. Olson is a Republican; was married in1883 to Bertha Everson, of Trempealeau county, Wis.; they have four children living. |
