Peter P. Eidem, who was born in Selbu, Norway in 1858 has been a resident of Minnesota for almost a quarter of a century. He is highly regarded in the community in which he lives. Paul Eidem, the father of Peter P. was born in Norway, and came of a long line of Norwegian ancestors. He died in his native land in 1881.

Peter P. Eidem was the first born in the family of five children and grew up in his native town, with such school privileges as the times afforded. He had to go to work herding cattle when he was eleven years.

In 1880, he crossed the ocean to Quebec, and on to Renville County, Minnesota on May 24, 1880. For three years he did farm work and in 1882, he came to homestead land in Lac Qui Parle County. He built a claim shanty and a straw shed for oxen and began his farming.

Peter married Carrie (Kari?) Slind in 1888. She was born in Norway in 1863. They were very pleasant people. socially, and very popular among neighbors for their many excellent qualities and kindly character.

He was politically motivated and served on town boards often. He owned a good farm of two hundred and twelve acres well provided with good buildings, a windmill, a beautiful grove of trees he planted with his own hands.

Peter deserves a prominent place among the men whose brawn, brain, and muscle have gone into the actual making of Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota.

Peter has a host of descendants in the area. They would make Norway proud of them. They are good folks.
