Sør-Trøndelag


The following research sources are specific to the Trøndelag region of Norway.

Bygdeboker for Sør-Trøndelag Fylke.  List of bygdeboks available from the University of North Dakota-Grand Forks. This is one of the largest collections in the U.S. although the Trønderlag of America probably owns more recent books specific to Trøndelag.

Cemetery Burials for Singsås Kirkegard in Midtre Gauldal Kommune. An alphabetical listing by surname/farm name.

Digitalarkivet: Emigrants from Trondheim 1867-1930. A searchable database of the emigrant records of those who emigrated from Norway by leaving from Trondheim, beginning with 1867 records. Emigrants from this port came from many areas north and south of Trondheim so not all were necessarily from Trøndelag. This free database comes from the Archives of Norway.

Digitized Parish Records for Sør-Trøndelag.  This is a growing database of records from the National Archives of Norway.

DIS-Sør-Trøndelag. Genealogical society in Norway specifically for Sør-Trøndelag research. Their web site includes a Genealogical Farm Index for Sør-Trøndelag - a registration of genealogists who are researching specific farms.

Emigration from Soknedal, Norway to USA by Arnold Bakken.  A database of the emigrants from Soknedal 1857-1954 (includes some from Støren also) in Midtre Gauldal.

Folktellinga 1801 Budal - the 1801 census for the Budal area of Midtre Gauldal Kommune, transcribed by Dagfinn Refseth.

Kirkebøker for Støren prestegjeld. Births, deaths, marriage records of Støren, Soknedal, Horg, and Budal parishes transcribed from the Norwegian records by Dagfinn Refseth.

Land Register for 1950. Choose from the list on the left to select the region and the specific community/parish.

Røros Kirkebøker 1767-1816. Parish records from Røros church: Baptisms, Marriages, Confirmations

Searching the 1865, 1875 and 1900 census. Census database from the Norwegian Historical Data Centre. Search by year on partial names and by province. The 1865 and 1900 censuses are complete here.

Stadsbygd og Staværinger. Stadsbygd and its people by Dennis Haarsager. Web site contains lots of good information about many places in Sør-Trøndelag.

Statsarkivet i Trondheim - The regional state archives contains records regarding most matters registered or processed by a governmental authority at the local or central level (church records, census, maps, heritage). You can visit the archives to use the materials yourself or you can write to ask for assistance. Please note that they are understaffed and requests for the archives to do your research may take a long time to get a response. The archives has moved to a new location which is listed below.

Strinda Historical Society (Strinda Historielag) - official web site of the Strinda Historical Society. In Norwegian: http://www.strindahistorielag.no/

Trøndelag Mail List - A mail list for discussing and sharing of information and genealogy research about our ancestors and immigrant families from the Trøndelag region of Norway (Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag). Additional information about the mail list is found on their web pages.

Trønderlag of America - The Trønderlag of America is a bygdelag (lag) — an organization or association of emigrants and their descendants from the Trøndelag region (middle) of Norway and includes both Nord- and Sør-Trøndelag. Lags were established in the U.S. to maintain the ties to the homeland and provide a place for those emigrants to assemble at least once a year.  Trønderlaget was established in 1908 and will be celebrating the anniversary of its founding on August  9, 2008 in Fergus Falls, MN. The Trønderlag of America website also contains an extensive genealogy resources page.
