J. P. NORDSETH REAPS REWARD

On Wednesday last a heavy cloud of grief and sorrow darkened the home of Jens P. Nordseth, and in the gathering gloom and sadness thus occasioned, that deathless spark of energy, and life and kindness which made Jens Nordseth idolized in his home and loved and respected by all who knew him, withdrew to revel forever in the company and associations of the angels.  He lived a good life, and the rewards reserved for those who merit their Maker's smile are his forever.

Jens Peter Nordseth was born at Kladebo [Klębu], Norway, near Thromdhjem [Trondheim] on February 25th, 1849 and passed on to the better life on August 21st aged seventy four years, six months and three days.  He came to America in 1879 [other sources say 1880], to seek his betterment among the larger opportunities the new world had to offer and he settled in Canton where he has since continuously lived.  He was devotedly attached to the Lutheran church, of which communion he was a member of over forty years, he loved his rituals, worked for its extension, confined in its instructions and lived in accordance with its tenets and teachings.

In 1886 he married Gurena [Gurine] Nordtvedt, eight children being born to bless their union, seven of whom, together with his wife survived him viz: 

Joseph and Norman of Emery, S. D., Palmer of Minneapolis, Minn., Olaf and Mrs. C. E. Knudson of Canton, S. D., Alpha and Marie of Duluth, Minn., all of whom were at his bedside.  One child of five preceded him into the beyond.  Four grandchildren are living to share his affection.

He was buried from the church he loved, Rev. Rasmussen officiating and  was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery.

Out of town friends were Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnson, all of Hudson.
