Dear Mother,

I seate myself to write you a few lines to let you know I am well at this time and I hope these few lines will find you enjoying good health Dear mother I have nothing new to write to you at this time except the soldiers are coming in hear fast We are expecting a fight hear before long We are preparing for it as hard as we can for there is no knowing how quick the enemy will come Mother don't let this ???? you for I put my trust in a higher power Mother I think that from all that I can hear you will hear the cannon between now and January although I may be mistaken but if they are coming I want them to come and when they come I think they will go back We have a battry all a round town except one little place and their is too redgaments at work at them daly now Mother our company is on guard every day one half one day and the other the next We don't get no rest time at all Mother J.R. is well he is as hearty as ever I saw him he is on guard to knight and A.J. all so
Mother tell sister Lizzie that AJ is well and hearty Oh Mother I saw the ???? com in today loded with artilary and I was glad to see them Mother tell CB to com down to see me and tell him to bring me some potatoes So I will have to close give my love to all of the family and reserve a great portion for your self this is from you son
