I connected to the "Henry" line with my 2nd Great Grandfather, Griffith W. Barnhill's 2nd marriage to Eliza Jane Henry.

Eliza Jane Henry was the daughter of William Henry and Olivia Register, a daughter of Luke Register. She was the 2nd oldest child and oldest daughter, as we have been able to determine. Her known siblings were:

In the 1850 Federal census the family was living in New Hanover County, township not determined, but believed that it is part of Pender County, today.

William Henry was the 8th child born to William "Tailor Billy" Henry and Jane Wiley. Jane Wiley was from Long Island, New York. His siblings were:

"Tailor Billy" and Jane lived in what was then New Hanover County. They died in New Hanover County as well.

Upon the death of William "Tailor Billy" Henry in 1833, an obituary in a Wilmington, NC newspaper read: "...a native of Scotland, but for the past fifty years an inhabitant of this country."

According to handwritten entries in an old family document, William "Tailor Billy" Henry was born April 5, 1760 in Scotland, the son of Neal and Margaret. This document currently is owned by descendants of Tailor Billy's daughter, Hannah. (See details below under Confession of Faith)

C.A. Colvin, a nephew of Elizabeth, daughter of Tailor Billy's son, Neal, wrote a letter in 1911 in which he stated that "...William Henry came from New York just before or right after the Revolutionary War (1775-1785) and settled on a tract of land granted to him lying on the east side of the east prong of Colvin's Creek..." (William would be in his early 20's at this time).

Eliza Jane Henry became my 2nd great grandmother, with her marriage to Griffith W. Barnhill, as previously indicated. It is through her son, Robert Bizzel Barnhill and his marriage to Kate Sherman, that I descend.
