Monthly Meetings

TPCGS monthly meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month, September through May. Generally, monthly meetings will be held at Bates Technical College, South Campus, 2201 South 78th St, Tacoma, Building E. (see Map to Bates). Lot 11 is available for parking in the evening.

Meetings begin at 6:00 pm, with a workshop session, followed by a brief business meeting. After a break for snacks and visiting, the main presentation begins. Guests are always welcome! Meetings are generally adjourned by 9:00 pm.

Members are also invited to attend Board Meetings, which are held the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at Ben Dews Clubhouse Grill, 6501 6th Ave, Tacoma. Contact a board member for further information.

Most researchers admit to collecting and gathering an assortment of information from a variety of sources either inherited, downloaded from genealogy databases, copies from books, and research notes. So, what happens next? Learn several techniques and tools to stay organized, extracting the data from the record, analyzing what's found, citing the source and the first steps in identifying research questions, presented by Janet OíConor Camarata, a member of South King County Genealogical Society (SKCGS) has over 25-years of experience in genealogy. She is the leader of the SKCGS's Technology User Group, an instructor in a 6-week course in genealogy at Pierce College, and a seminar presenter and trainer in genealogy societies across Washington, a newsletter editor for Kittitas County Genealogical Society.
Sharing Time: Come early and talk with your friends your haven't seen in a while, share a story of a brick wall your knocked down, or ask a question to help with that wall that is still standing.

Are You Afraid of Spreadsheets? Are you afraid of spreadsheets because you donít know how or where to start? Or are you comfortable with spreadsheets but think there might be a trick our two out there that you donít know? In this talk, Mary will get the beginners up to speed, and share with experienced users tricks sheís learned in more than 25 years of spreadsheet use as an accountant, a writer and a genealogist.
Mary Roddy, a Certified Public Accountant, earned a certificate from the Genealogy and Family History program at the University of Washington. She speaks frequently in the Western Washington area and at regional and national conferences. Mary is a regular contributor to YourGenealogyToday and Internet Genealogy magazines and a webinar presenter with Legacy Family Tree Webinars. Her background in accounting has influenced the way she uses spreadsheets and forensic research in her genealogy.
