ABOUT THE CAMWOOD OBITUARY PROJECT

This on-going collection of obituaries was started several years ago by the CamWood Genealogical Workshop with recent additions from the Stanwood Area Historical Society's files.  It is presented here as an expanded index; in addition to surname, given name and death date, each data line includes the birth name, place of birth and date of birth if given in the obit.

The primary source for the collection has been the Stanwood/Camano News published weekly in Stanwood, and serving not only Camano Island and Stanwood, but also the extreme south-western part of Skagit County.  The majority of obituaries in the collection dates from the early 1960s to the present.  Earlier obituaries have been obtained from other area libraries, archives, etc. As of February, 2016, the data base contain over 13,000 individual obituaries.

The Stanwood Area Historical Society has uploaded to the SAHS web site a list of Stanwood area newspapers and where they are held - http://www.sahs-fncc.org/SAHSbib.html .

The CamWood Genealogical Workshop has on file all of the original newspaper clippings of the indexed obituaries.  If you should find something that interests you, they'll be happy to make a copy of the obit and mail it to you free of charge; requests should be emailed to Bill Blandin - Blandin (AT) pobox.com .  Donations to the Stanwood Area Historical Society would be appreciated.  SAHS' address is PO Box 69, Stanwood, WA 98292. Be sure to let them know that you used the CamWood Project web site!

An ASTERISK after the information in a table cell means that the information was NOT contained in the actual obituary.  That additional information may have come from SSDI, relatives, etc.

To correct an entry, add additional information to a data line OR request a copy of an individual obituary, please email Bill Blandin - Blandin (AT) pobox.com .  Use CAMWOOD-OBITS as the message header.  (On 12 September 2009, Bill was recognized by the Washington State Genealogical Society for his work in designing, compiling and maintaining the CamWood Obituary Project. The award certificate reads in part: "William Blandin of Camano Island, Washington, is recognized for outstanding efforts in the preservation of important records of genealogical value to the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society and other researchers interested in the families of Washington State" )

About the CamWood Genealogical Workshop

Though about 80% of "the CamWoodies" live on Camano Island in Island County, they meet in Stanwood which is in Snohomish County, thus their association with the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society.

The Workshop has been functioning since 1990 when a few folks decided to get together and talk about their common interest in genealogy.  Through the years, membership has grown but has always remained at a level comfortable enough that the group has never abandoned its informal approach to meetings - there isn't even a president!  Workshop members meet regularly at 1 o'clock on the first Monday of each month in the Stanwood Area Historical Society Museum.  Guests are always welcome!
