ABOUT THE USGENWEB PROJECT

ABOUT THE US GENWEB PROJECT

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the webpage. The Washington GenWeb project is an extension of the KY GenWeb Project.

"Keeping Internet Genealogy Free" is the prime directive for the USGenWeb Project. The NATIONAL COORDINATOR for the USGenWeb Project is Scott Burow. The project's front page is at http://www.usgenweb.com/

The Washington State USGenWeb Project page offers links to each Washington county page as well as the various State Project Archives. On the Opening Page of the site is a powerful search engine which allows searching of ALL Washington county pages and the various project Archives for a given surname or locality. State State Coordinator is Mike Sweeney - [email protected]
