DES COTEAUX, DEWTO, HILL (LEFEBVRE DIT DESCOTEAUX) FAMILY

DES COTEAUX, DEWTO, HILL (LEFEBVRE DIT DESCOTEAUX) FAMILY

Clues:

The given name "Gabriel" was very common in this family complex. The following instances have been located. Some are clearly too early to pertain to the Grand Isle Co., Vt.

immigrant.

a) Gabriel Descoteaux, age 25 years (the late Pierre Descoteaux and the late Madeleine Auger) of Riviere-du-Loup-en-Haut (Louiseville) m. 18 November 1764, Notre-Dame-de-

Montreal, Marie-Louise Query, 24 years (the late Louis Query and Madeleine Cluseau).

b) Ange-Gabriel Lefebvre-Descoteaux (Claude and Marie-Catherine Desrochers) m. c. 1765, Anne-Madeleine Desrosiers.

c) Michel-Gabriel-Antoine Lefebvre-Descoteaux (Antoine and Marie-Anne Terrien) m. 24 August 1767, St-Francois-du-Lac, Catherine Cahier/Cayer (Jean-Baptiste Cahier/Cayer and Catherine Lamirande).

d) Joseph-Gabriel Descoteaux-Lefebvre-Senneville (Ange-Gabriel and Anne-Madeleine Desrosiers) m. 14 November 1786, Baie-du-Febvre, Marguerite Lemire (Antoine Lemire and

Genevieve Chevrefils).

e) Gabriel Lefebvre-Descoteaux (Joseph-Antoine Lefebvre-Descoteaux and Marie-Josette Robidas) m. 7 January 1789, St-Francois-du-Lac, Marie-Louise Boisvert (Francois Boisvert and Genevieve Martel).

-----------------------

f) Gabriel Descoteaux-Lefebvre (Michel-Gabriel Descoteaux-Lefebvre and Catherine Cahier) m. 19 February 1798, Baie-du-Febvre, Josette Caya (Joseph Caya and Elisabeth Bourdeau). THEIR CHILDREN MARRIED IN CANADA

g) Gabriel Lefebvre-Descoteaux (Pierre Lefebvre-Descoteaux and Madeleine Houde) m. (1) 9 January 1809, Baie-du-Febvre, Josette Simonneau (Francois Simonneau and Josette Gagnon); m. (2) 2 June 1817, Baie-du-Febvre, Louise Dessein dit St-Pierre, widow of Jean-Charles Martin.

THE SECOND WIFE OF THIS MAN WAS MUCH OLDER THAN MRS. MARY DESCOTEAUX OF GRAND ISLE CO., VT. She had a daughter of her first marriage marry in 1825, one in 1826, and another in 1831, all in Canada.

h) Gabriel Descoteaux (Gabriel Descoteaux and Marie-Louise Boisvert) m. 27 July 1812, St-Francois-du-Lac, Marie Laforest (Michel Laforest and Genevieve Outrage) THEIR CHILDREN MARRIED IN CANADA

i) Gabriel Descoteaux (Jean-Joseph Descoteaux and Marie-Rose Meunier) m. 23 May 1814, Baie-du-Febvre, Angelique Lyonnais (Joseph Lyonnais and Josette Perron)

j) Gabriel Lefebvre-Descoteaux (Joseph-Gabriel Descoteaux and Marguerite Lemire) m. (1) 24 January 1814, Antoinette Lafone (Joseph and Louise Turcot); m. (2) 2 March 1840, Marguerite Cadoret (Joseph Cadoret and Marguerite Beaudoin).

HE STILL LIVED IN CANADA AFTER THE IMMIGRANT HAD MOVED TO VERMONT. HIS CHILDREN MARRIED IN CANADA.

k) Gabriel Descoteaux (Pierre Descoteaux and Charlotte Boisvert) m. 17 February 1817, Nicolet, Marie Lampron (Auguste Lampron and Marie-Anne St-Jean)

THEIR SON, Jean-Baptiste DesCoteaux, m. 12 May 1849, St. Joseph's Corbeau, Coopersville, Clinton Co., N.Y., Adelaide Tremblay (Abraham and Rose Chayon). She remarried

c. 1853 to J.B. Potvin and moved to Minnesota.

ANOTHER SON of this couple married later than this date at Nicolet IN CANADA.

Thus, barring the existence of men of the name who have not yet been found in the indexes, there are really two possibilities for the immigrant to Grand Isle, Co., Vt.: (i) and (k), presuming that the son of (k) who married in Canada had returned from the U.S. for a visit. It would be

necessary to check the baptismal records for names of children of these couples to get more precise information.
