Town Government

Villages and hamlets in Braintree include: Braintree, Braintree Center, East Braintree, Snowsville, West Braintree, and Peth.

It should be noted that Town Clerks as a rule no longer will perform research but will assist researchers when they visit the town offices. I found the Assistant Town Clerk, Mary Stephen, to be very helpful and a credit to the town office. She took time to show me locations of cemeteries I was unable to locate.

Braintree History

   Excerpt from Child's 1887 Gazetteer

Braintree Panther

Jim Sardonis, a renowned local sculptor, was commissioned in 1991 to create a statue of a mother panther with her cubs which would be situated on the green in front of the Meetinghouse. The granite which was used came from an abandoned quarry in the town of Braintree. People are encouraged to sit on it and to climb on it. Following are photos of the statue.

Braintree Vital Statistics

    1790 Orange County

Census reporting ends with the 1820 census. There were over 50 separate items of data gathered in the 1830 census. That fact and that names are not in alphabetical order make it impractical to report later years.
