The cedar staircase was imported from France by the Liardet family. It was made wide
and well proportioned to accommodate the large hooped skirts of the 1850-60s
period. Note the main handrail does not go all the way to the top.
The reason for this is not actually known. It may have been in the design or
perhaps an error in measurement. It is a steep climb to the top of the stairs. |
