The Staircase
The cedar staircase was imported from France by the Liardet family. It was made wide and well proportioned to accommodate the large hooped skirts of the 1850-60s period.  Note the main handrail does not go all the way to the top.  The reason for this is not actually known. It may have been in the design or perhaps an error in measurement. It is a steep climb to the top of the stairs.
