This Indenture Tripartite made the 21st of Augst. in the Year of our Lord 1767
Between William Allen of the County of Surry Gent. of the first part
Emanuel Jones Master of the Brafferton at the College of William and Mary Gent. of the Second Part &
John Allen an Infant son and Heir Apparent of the said William of the Third part

Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the Natural love & Affection which the said William Allen hath & Doth bear to his said Son John Allen and for his Advancement in the World and Also in Consideration of the Sum of five Shillings by the said Emanuel to the said William in Hand paid at or before the Sealing and Delivery of these Presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said William Allen Hath given granted bargained sold and Confirmed & by these Presents Doth give grant bargain sell and Confirm unto the said Emanuel Jones his Heirs and Assigns all those fifty four Slaves Called and known by the Names following, to wit

Beck, Penelope and her Children Frances little Beck & Elizabeth Hickman
Betty and her son Will, Carpenter Dick, Will and Randolph, which said Nine last mentioned Slaves are the Children and Grand Children of the said Beck,
Peter and Will Ship Carpenters Ratclif, David, Mingo, James, a Blacksmith, Moses the Coachman, Aaron the Cook, Jack and Nick Shoemakers, Ceasar a Negro Boy, and Stephen a Mulatto Boy bought at Mr. Robt. Harrisons Sale in Charles City County which said Slaves are at the manor Plantation of the said William Allen in the County of Surry,
Nelly & her Children, Hannah, Harry, Jeffery, George, Ned, Rachel, and an Infant Child of the said Nelly's, whose name is at present unknown,
Dido and her Children George, Ampey, Lucy, Jamie, and Hannah,
Sue and her Children, Tom, & Will, Tawny, Peter Joe, Essex, Ben Mercury old Will, Ralph, Tom, Moses, Sarah, Judy, Bella, Rose, & Nanny which said thirty two Slaves last mentioned are belonging to & upon the Plantation of the said Wm. Allen in the County of Spotsylvania and all the Estate Right Title & Interest of him the said William Allen of in & to the said Slaves.

To have and to Hold the said fifty four Slaves with the future Increase of the said Female Slave unto the said Emanuel Jones his Heirs & Assigns In Trust to suffer and permit the said William Allen to keep possession of the said Slaves & their Increase and to take the Profits rising from thir use and Labours to and for his own Benefit & behoof during his Natural life without being accountable for the same and after his Death In Trust to suffer and permit the said John Allen to possess the sd. Slaves and their Increase and to [take] the Profits arising from their use and labour to and for his own Benefit and behoof until he shall arrive to the Age of Eighteen Years without it being accountable for the same and in Case the said John shall live to attain the Age of Eighteen Years then In Trust to hold the said Slaves and their Increase after the Death of the said William Allen to and for the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Allen his Heirs & Assigns for ever, but in case the said Jno. Allen shall servive the said William and depart this Life before he shall Attain his said Age of Eighteen Years or shall die in the lifetime of the said William before he shall Attain to the Age of Twenty one Years. then and Immediately after the Death of the said John In Trust and to and for the Only proper use and behoof of the said William Allen his Heirs and Assigns for ever, and to and for no other use Intent or purpose whatsoever In Witness whereof the Parties to these Presents have heretunto set their Hands and Seals the Day & Year above Written
